My point was more for the second category. If a person makes a garment from one of the big pattern company's pattern, there is no way they are going to be able to ask for permission! As an example in a similar situation, if I make a garment and enter it in Canberra show, I don't have to ask permission from the pattern maker. The design has to be my own, not the base garment pattern. If I win a prize I profit, yet I haven't breached copyright.

Having said all that, I'm not entering the Aust Day Comp! I don't have the time right now and can't find anything here to sew with anyway! It really did start as just an interested query, but I think it's starting to get contentious and confusing so I'll drop it!
