I've overcome the stinky nappy syndrome by doing a monthly cold wash in a full scoop of regular powder (ie full of everything we're told not to use on MCN), followed by another full hot cycle without any detergent to rinse. I've been doing that for about 7 months and my nappies never stink and don't look, feel or perform like it's done any damage.
