I used the pad fold with my homemade prefolds and used covers with gussets. These kept in all explosive poos and did a great job. I made my prefold using bamboo fleece. I used 2 layers of bamboo, in the middle 3rd of the 2 layers of bamboo I sewed in 2 layers of hemp terry. Then folded it in 3rds laid it in the cover and put it on. I made them 33cmsx35cms, which then fit perfectly in the pockets I have for later use. This worked great. Here are some pics
