I use calico bags for shopping. Most I brought at the fruit and vegie market near my house cos I don't like the Coles/Woolworths ones and thought I would support local. I do shop using plastic bags every now and then and use the bags for rubbish. Probably not the best idea but at least I am reusing them.
As for the f&v plastic I put all the f&v in the calico bag while I shop then pop it all on the counter at the checkout. So it isn't rolling around the trolley, yes it is loose in the bag but really it's proabably not much hassle to the checkout people to grab them in handfuls. As a rule though I tend to only buy something I need then and there from the supermarket and shop at the f&v shed but I do the same thing
