Unhappy fungal infection

Lucas has a fungal infection poor little man. It is awful and his willy looks soooo sore. He had a bacterial infection and then it turned into a fungal infection was getting better and now is worse. We have been to the doctor three times, used two creams and he is now on antibiotics. Any tips from people who have experienced this??

Ahhh big hugs Meagan and Lucas We had a similar thing happen to Gracie but we were referred to a pediatric dermatologist and it turned out it was something totally different. Maybe ask for a referral if it does sort itself out? I can give you the name of the dermatologist if you fancy - he is great and in Freo.

Hugs hugs hugs,

Bec.

I did with Liam.... thankfully a regular smearing of Calendula wound ointment cleared it up in a couple of days.
I agree with Bec about getting it checked out thoroughly first though.

(((Hugs))) Megan... hope Lucas is better real soon!!

Hugs to you Meagan, and to poor little Lucas

I don't have any tips aside from the usual:
lots of nappy free time
changing straight away when he's wet if he's wearing a nappy
use an antifungal cream
wash the nappies on 65 C or hotter and hang outside to dry to get some UV
maybe look at cutting yeasty stuff from your diet until it's cleared

i hope it clears soon. when mish had a fungal rash it recurred a few times and it felt like it was never going to go away, but it did eventually.

Ouch, poor little man. Rowan had a fungal infection that turned bacterial a few months back, so opposite to you. My doctor said to use nothing at all on the infection until the antibiotics had worked on the bacterial infection, then we could use an anti-fungal (he suggested caneston, but said if we had any others at home that they would work too). And to use nothing to clean her nappy area with but plain water while it was bacterial, then we could use a chamomile tea solution if we wanted to.

I also started doing a 60 deg prewash for my nappies & making sure they got a long stint in the sun while drying.

Tinderbox does a anti-fungal balm that does wonders for my boy's skin. He had really sensitive skin and at one point it got really bad and he was in so much pain. He's all fine now though and the tinderbox stuff is good for so many other skin conditions too.

daktozin cream from the chemist worked brilliantly for us. it is a zinc based antifungal and provides a fantastic barrier.

hope he is better soon!

when X had thrush, I used plain, natural set yoghurt which cleared it up.

I am revisiting this thread as Lucas has had thrush now for almost 3 weeks. It is just now starting to look better. He has been at childcare 4 days a week for the last two weeks and they are totally cool with cloth nappies which is great but I would have him naked (or no nappy at least) at home while he has thrush, obviously this is not an option at child care and he is probably not changed as often there as I would change him at home knowing he has the infection.

Thinking about it he has had something on and off since mid october last year. Has anyone experienced a reccurrance of thrush/fungal or bacterial infections in the nappy area with their child. I am thinking about taking him to see a naturopath to try and get to the bottom of it (no pun intended)

Thoughts anyone?
