    Default Rash *screams*

To cut a very very very long story very very short...

Tara once again has a bacterial infection on her bottom. It's quite serious this time, and is an antibiotic treatment one. She has ulcers and welts all over her bum that keep bursting. We had it seen to today by a doc, and it's his suspicion that once again we are dealing with a Staph infection.

To give you some idea what we are dealing with click here (warning graphic!) with the added bonus of ulcers with clear fluid that burst and leave gaping holes.

Any ways, it looks like it could be a mixture of Thrush, Staph and contact dermatitis/nappy dermatitis. This is a persistent issue now.

I need to start using a barrier cream. Of some sort. Preferably something that will not ruin my cloth. Switching to disposables at this time is an ok option, however, it's disposables that cause the issues in the beginning (reacts to the elastic, urine touches it. gets rash, skin breaks, bacterial infection begins)

I am doing my head in.

Tara is no longer wearing a nappy during the day at home most of the time - only wears it at night... and wears nappies when we go out (often).

When we are out I try and have her out of a nappy as much as I can now.

I rarely use covers, just let her clothes get wet, and I often don't boost much to get as much air flow as possible. I just deal with wet spots.

But I have been told Tara may just need a barrier cream... and I am happy for that... I just need something recommended to me please.

I am at my wits end...

Hayden rashes badly (though not constantly) including blisters and has also had a staph infection, so I know where you are coming from. Fortunately a stint in disposables and use of Daktozin cream fixes his problem. The Daktozin is an antifungal, but the best thing about it is the incredibly thick barrier. I have tried 3-4 other zinc based creams and none even come close to the barrier the Daktozin provides. It will ruin your cloth nappies though, so liners are essential. Available from pharmacies (I sound like an advertisement I know, but it really has worked wonders for us). I have also used Natures Child Bottom Balm with success- but only for when a bit of mild redness is apparent, anything beyond that gets the Daktozin treatment.

You poor bugger and your poor little girl. I feel for you I really do.

Have you tried sudocreme. I find it works well but then again when Emi had thrush the only thing that helped was the foot fungus cream you get over the counter, i can't remember the name and its in her room (no way im going in there an incurring the wrath of emi)

My DD rashes badly too. I looked at your photo and went "yep". Desitin always does the trick. It's as thick as Daktozin (about 40% zinc) but doesn't have the anti-fungal. If I were you I'd try to get away without the anti-fungal if I could but in your circumstances you might need it. I use Desitin in the first case and switch to Daktozin if that doesn't work (rarely but has happened). I find Destitin and Daktozin will go through an Eenees liner if the nappy is on for a while (nights) or if bubba is particularly active. You could try doubling it over (I sometimes tear one in half if the cream is only on a small area because I can be a tight-ass ) if that will cover the area, or maybe use two if you find it's going through.

ETA - it can be hard to get off. My tip is don't try too hard (logic being if you can't get it off there is nothing underneath it between it and the skin), or use something like sorbolene on the wipe (not if the skin is broken because it might sting) so that your cloth slides over easily and I find it helps to kinda dissolve it off.

Ahh well there you go Robyn...I did not realise there was another version without antifungal! Though I think for Tara the anti fungal would be best considering that thrush is suspected.

My bub has a staph infected nappy rash at the moment (and is pooing about 6 times a day just to make it all better!). He is on oral antibiotics and I'm using bepanthan as well. Poor kid, he cries every time I have to clean him up.

Hope your daughter clears up soon.

Have you ever looked into Colloidal Silver? Its available at the health food shop, we mainly just use it for Squish when he comes down with a cold or flu as an alternative to antibiotics, its enough to knock it on the head and get rid of it. But its used for a huge range of things it can be taken orally or applied locally...

Scroll down to the bottom 'More than 650 diseases helped'
We were put onto it by our wellness centre when Squish was younger and had a cold that he just couldn't shake and i was tired of using antibiotics...

yeah, agree - get rid of the rash first, then do some trial runs to see what steps you need to keep it at bay...

Hunter had the EXACT same rash when he was first day trained.
His bum looked like someone had been lighting fire to it It had blisters all over it!
It was because of the ammonia in the night nappies, which hadn't been a problem before cause his bum was use to sitting in wet nappies. But once he was out of nappies during the day, he starting getting horrific nappy rash at night.
I ended up putting him in disposables till it cleared (which he is allergic to, which is why I started using cloth in the first place ), and now alternate between disposables and cloth and have no problems.
Edited to say, we still have rashes from the disposables, just notmal rash though around his lower back, tummy and thighs, not weeping horrible burn like rash.
I just used Lanolin on it to clear it up.

Tara is going to be on Hydro something cream which is an anti fungal with steroid cream to help with the healing, as well as antibiotic creams.

I am also going to get an antibacterial bum cream as well for trying to curb the issues a bit.

And on top of that I need a barrier cream (will look at the ones mentioned) and get some liners and try and work that all out...

    It is nasty nasty...
