I am wanting to know what you would do.....
DS had a ear infection really bad and needed antiB's which then caused thrush and a yucky nappy rash, this rash although it seemed to be under control with canasten cream. Sunday flared up much worse and looked very bad solid hard type blister/bump/welt looking things all over his sack and today he's gotten one or two on the end of his willy so when i had DS at the doctors today for his 12m jabs i got my doctor to have a look at it and she said he has some sort of staph infection (and mentioned another that i have forgotten the name) Now DS is on antiB's yet again much stronger and different ones to treat this before it gets worse and i have some cream to put on his bottom the cream is really thick barrier type cream, i asked my doctor about the nappies and she said huggies is always the best, i dont think she is a fan of cloth nappies or knows much about mcn but she is a great doctor btw. I also bought some of the canasten laundry rinse to treat all the nappies as i cant hot wash them as there is no hot tap in the laundry and i will line dry them so they get a good sunning which they will as its heading towards 41 this week in SA So would you use Huggies until it cleared up? Or stick to cloth? I dont know whether to stick to the cloth or bite my tongue from saying i wouldnt put a sposie on DS bum and use them for a few days till this clears up |

Its a tough one..... I've tried both methods at various times!
If I have used cloth though, I've been sure to use a liner so the thick cream doesn't come in contact with my precious nappies. For Emma I found it didn't matter what type of nappy I used if she had a rash, but for Georgie I ended up needing about 4-5 months in disposables to clear her up completely. This wasn't something I wanted to do, but to ease my conscience a bit I did (and still do when needed) use the Bambo Eco Disposables. I can't really give any advice though as like I said - my own two kids have been different!

don't yell at me if I've totally forgotten but what age can babies have yoghurt?
If your little one is too little don't worry, but for you (if you're still b/f) and little ones - in our house antibiotics = automatic yoghurt to keep any thrush at bay (DS1 had particularly bad ear infections often so I learnt this the hard way). Anyway so just that bit of advice from me ![]() and PLENTY of nappy-off time

oh yes - good point Kristy!
If yoghurt isn't an option Probiotics of any type should also help the body out a bit.

obviously do what you feel most comfortable with, but we've not used single use nappies with any form of rash here - thrush or otherwise - because i don't believe that single use nappies are any better for that than cloth. i agree with kristy though - plenty of nappy free time is best, especially if it's going to be HOT. i know i'd rather be wearing no pants or cloth pants rather than plastic pants on a 41 degree day.

Theresa what type of probiotics can you get other than yog - ie tablet or?
as to the nappies well I'd stay with cloth but that's just me. more than nappy choice I'd go nappy free. I would also consider what type of nappies you have ie fleece lined/hemp/bamboo etc as any of those may help ie a different fabric to do what you need it to do while this bug is about - also different liners? I wonder too, if it's the overly-drying effect of the disposables that helps people, whether microfibre would have the same effect - just wondering out loud, not tried it etc |

Kristy you can get Inner Health from most pharmacies and they even have a kids version now (not sure what the youngest age is though) and I saw a few other brands in the fridge at the pharmacy lately too so I'm guessing more and more companies are coming out with versions.
I would tend to think if you can eat dairy, that yoghurt would be the easiest though! I am hopeless with remembering to take stuff!
