Default Hmm not sure what to do.

Simon has had a rash on the underside of his penis for a couple of days, I've been using heaps of corn starch powder and some zinc cream. Well its not getting better it has little ulcer's on it and one of the ulcer's was bleeding.

I'm thinking its thrush as its not clearing with our usual treatments. If I put yoghurt on it how much and how often do I do it? and when do you take them to the Dr?? in case its bacterial (OK I know I'm a kids nurse but at work I just get a resident to look at it if I think its a bit dodgy, then its their responsibility if it turns nasty not mine )

Has anyone had a little one sensitive to the Gaia corn starch powder? I've changed him to corn flour from coles for now.

    TIA

L had a very sore penis and balls for agggeeeesssss (it felt like forever) and it was bacterial, turned fungal and then a secondary bacterial. We ended up using alternative daktozin and betadine cream ( so messy for cloth) and lots of nappy free time. It is such a moist area and so hard to get rid of. good luck. I have never used cornstarch powder before so can't comment on that.

Sounds similar to what Lucy has had before and the only thing that we did to get rid of it was to leave her nappy off. during the night as well. It was the only way in this humidity.

I was gonna say lots of nappy-free time.

(Also, sorry to go OT, but Meagan, I totally read your post as "I had a very sore penis ..." which really took me aback! )

i seem to remember pip's thomas having success with salty baths (i think) twice a day. she used to do it in the laundry sink.

bring him to the doctor when you start getting worried ... is he uncomfortable?

I'll try the bathroom sink, Our laundry sink is gross cause Josh cleans all his paint brushes and other manly recreational stuff in it . He's got a tiny butt

Its hard to tell if he's uncomfortable with it as he's a reflux baby and always a little irritable, it definately hurts when I try to clean it .

I went to the natural food store and got some calendular tea and some camomile tea and put some of that in his bath tonight with some salt.

I usually put bicarb in their bath when they're sore but I couldn't find it when I went to woolies, I have no idea where they keep it.

Thanks for your help so far.

Sounds like a small dose of balanitis Tracey.
See how it responds to salt baths... and if that doesn't help I'd take him to the GP.
Hope Simon is better very quickly!

When we have something that just 'won't shift' in the nappy area we usually hit it with Daktozin Ointment from the Chemist (kept behind the counter), I only use it if I have to but it usually only takes one or two applications and the sore bit is gone... otherwise nappy free time and he's not allergic to corn is he? We can't use any of the cornflour stuff on Squish cause he can't eat it so can't have it on his skin either, makes it worse

Ouch! That sound so sore for the little fella! I'd be going to the chemist or doctors. If it's bleeding it must be painful!

We had the same thing, nothing would fix it, so we went to the doc. I was worried because it went from sore and yuk to pus and blood overnight.

He gave us some ointment they give for swimmer's ear and it's clearing up well.

Go to the doc if you're unsure, to put your mind at ease.
