Default I'm sick of nappy rash :(

I really really hate it. I really like using cloth but its so off putting when I take Kai's nappy off in the morning and his bum looks like he's been burnt

It mainly happens in the morning. He comes up with big bumps right in the center of the redness and if I dont smother him in zinc and castor oil or something like that and put him in sposies it just gets worse and worse till the skin breaks and he ends up with big blisters. And . . . If I dont change to sposies then they just get deeper and deeper.

I really dont know why. Cloth doesn't cause nappy rash so why does he get better in sposies?

I have the same issue with Benji. We now alternate with sposies when we need to (although atm we are in sposies again as his poo issue is pretty bad atm).

Maybe just go sposies o'nite, or first couple of nappies in the a.m?
There is a solution somewhere...... someone will have one I'm sure

Could he have an allergy to fleece/unnatural fibres? We have this happen every so often and I find if I put Nic in a totally natural inner (hemp/bamboo) it clears it up really well. I also find that when they are teething it is 10 times worse.

We had sooo many problems with this at a couple of stages.

For my DS, firstly I realised I'd been using some new liners that he reacted to (home brand disposable liners) and secondly we discovered a corn intolerance that was causing burning poos.

Also, there were always issues through the teething months. That was also when I had disintegrating nappies. When he got past 1ish it got a lot better. But I do agree, it's really disheartening and you simply have to do what's best for the little man, if that's using disposables when necessary, then it's better than putting him through pain. You're still saving the world from one less sposie whenever you are able to use a cloth nappy once.

And it goes without saying, to be nappy free whenever possible at home. I know that's getting harder as it gets cooler though.

Chelsea was like this too

I'm sorry to say but I never found anything that helped to clear it up. Now that she's TT'ed it's fine. Even though she still wears a night nappy, she doesn't wake up red raw anymore.

Hugs Suzanne- I have one boy like this too (the others are fine luckily). I gave up feely guilty and decided to do what worked for him. So every now and then he has a stint (maybe just 2 or 3 in a row- or an overnight) in sposies and I never let that burn/rash get to the point where he has blisters, etc and is in real pain. The sposies do keep their bottoms drier than most cloth nappies (though I do have a couple that are great at keeping him dry- I look for lush fleece inners). It is not something you neccessarily notice if you have a child who does not rash. The other thing for Hayden, is detecting and changing those poo nappies pronto! He is a fruit bat and has toxic poo to prove it. You know how when flying foxes poo on your car it destroys the paint unless you clean it asap? (lol maybe only those in the tropics have experienced this?!). Well it is the same deal

I dont think its the synthetic fiber thing cause we use fitted nappies mainly during the day that dont have stay dry inners. Maybe an allergy? Carolyn suggested silk liners just to see and also cut back his dairy. My dad has a dairy intolerance and so does Carolyn's son so could it be that??? (as he reaches for his cup of milk )

He is teething, well, all his teeth have just come up in the last week. I really doubt there is any more there, there is so many already

It is really annoying though, I have all these really nice night nappies that aren't getting the use they should

EDIT: I do try and change poo's asap cause this does make it much worse. Its such a horrible feeling when I didn't realise that he had and when I change him there is a surprise and a red bum to prove it

During the day nappies are changed more frequently Suzanne.... I find J needs natural fibres overnight as he gets similar rashes and he does have 2 older brothers with a dairy intolerance......... *sigh*

But stay dry inners are fine during the day.

Thank you everyone for replying, its nice to know that I'm, well Kai, isn't the only one.

I dont use stay dry during the day cause I cant be bothered putting one in LOL He gets changed at least every 3 hours during the day. I do have natural nappies I can use at night without a liner, I might give that a shot tonight, if I can be brave. I am scared it will make it worse having cloth overnight when he is already sore.

Maybe use sposies until its cleared up this time, then try the natural o/nt nap? I am using sposies at night ATM for that reason, and changing nappy during the day every 2 hours, or after a poo.
