Default damn fleece sensitivity. so what now?

i think that's what it is anyway, as our rash has cleared up (see other thread).

so what now?
i won't convert my stash just yet, cos *it might go away on its own... right??

but in the meantime... *what works for fleece sensitivity? what do you do?
obviously without a stay-dry liner i need to be changing twice as often.

thinking out aloud... some options i've considered..:
- cotton fitteds (cos they're soft on skin, don't wear out, and dry quickly)
- cotton flats/prefolds with snappis (maybe birdseye/dsq as they're less chafey?)
- training pants undies with no waterproof layer, maybe add a booster in the front too.
*any other ideas?

and for covers:
- longies, shorties, and wool covers
- flongies seem to be okay so far.... so i need more of those.
*can you recommend any wool covers without irritating or exposed elastic legs?
*can i use fleece covers, or will he just be sensitive to that too as he is to fleece nappies?

sigh... i feel like there needs to be a support group for cloth users with fleece sensitivity issues..
cos in the very least.. how sad to not be able to use all our pretty minky nappies! argh!
and more nappy changes for a boy who refuses to stand still much less lie down for them, is no picnic.

We went through a 12 month period where Claire couldn't wear synthetics either, so you have my complete sympathy on the restrictions in pretty, soft nappies you now face.

We had a stash that consisted of lots of flannel inner nappes, a couple of cotton rich velour (though even these would set her off with the small poly content) and organic velour. Terry generally caused irritation too, but we could use them for small amounts of time.

For covers it was pretty much all longies or soakers with leg cuffs loose enough not to rub. I also had a couple of pairs of flongies which suprisingly didn't cause a reaction.

Another thing I did was make some muslin liners, nice big cover the whole nappy size ones so we could still use some of our poly lined nappies without her getting red from them.

As I say, for Claire, it lasted about 12months, when we started trialling synthetics again, she TT'ed very soon after so I'm unsure if she completely outgrew it if it was the reduction in time spent even wearing a nappy.

Swaddlebees have a gorgeous onesize, a pocket and AIO with organic cotton velour. They also have an organic cotton velour topped hemp insert which you can lay in your existing pockets on the top so the fleece isn't touching her skin.

Raw silk liners???

Sugarpeas wool AIO (hemp fold out snap in's) are gorgeous also.

Will keep thinking for you

fitteds with
- bamboo velour inner (cute tooshies bamboo delights, itti bitti boo)
- cotton velour inner
- flanelette inner (Honeyboys)
- sherpa inner (baby eco)
- bamboo or hemp inner (baby beehinds)
ask WAHM's if they do custom inners
- butt natural
- little beetle

pockets with
- organic cotton velour inner (swaddlebees)

aio's with
- organic cotton velour inner (swaddlebees)

with synthetic inner MCN, i use them less, and put double layer flanelette liner inside.

covers:
hand knit woollies
  • soakers
  • shorties
  • longies
drawstring style - so no waist elastic
leg cuffs - so no leg elastic

disana organic wool soaker PULL UP style - great for nights
lanacare wool soakers

flongies - i've seen them of late at peep-o on wahmania, also twins in cloth oz ozebaby. bound to be heaps more as we get closer to winter.

my response is a mixutre of what works for us, and some other ideas.
