I don't know about Desitin as I haven't used it, sounds good. I have used Daktozin which is great. It will be what your GP is getting at as it is an antifungal (like Canesten) and also a barrier so you can't/don't need to wipe it off.

Just to calm down the aggravation, have you tried a chamomile compress on her bottom? That is fabulous to get rid of that initial burned/blistery look. Just make some chamomile tea, soak a facewasher or bamboo trifold or similar in it, wring it out slightly, whack it in a PUL cover and maybe put some longies over the top. Just an hour or two of that makes all the difference.
