    Default Q about poo colour

    lovely subject, I know

Until yesterday or the day before (can't remember exactly when) Freya's poop was what I know as "normal" for a b/f bub - mustardy-yellow colour. Now it's gone green Marcus wasn't a "normal" pooper so I am trying to remember back to the days of b/f Louis, what would cause this? Not having much luck remember back that far I'm thinking it might mean she's got an upset tummy? Or that I'm eating something that's causing it?

My guess is it's chocolate (I've been over-indulging a little bit recently ). Anyone got any suggestions? She's had a lot of wind too

Doesn't green poo mean that she is getting more of the watery foremilk and not enough of the fatty hindmilk?

I had a green poo episode with Lachie when he had a cold and was swallowing mucus. He was also a 'snacking' type feeder (still is), but we never seemed to have a problem with him getting foremilk overload. I NEVER found that chocolate (or chocolate milk ) caused a problem Is she otherwise OK Kim?

    thanks for that Karena.

Lindy, she seems fine otherwise - lots of wet nappies, she's pretty settled (for a 4 wk old!) - even did a 6hr stretch last night. Her pooping has become more frequent with the green poo. Prior to that she'd save it all up and do two or three massive ones every other day, but pretty much every nappy has had poop since the green stuff started. We have had a few attachement issues in the last week, which I think I've rectified now. maybe that has caused the change? anyway, seems like it's not anything to worry about at this stage. I'll try to make sure she feeds longer and see if that helps.

ETA: oh, I woke up with a head cold yesterday morning possibly she's got it too? although she seems ok - sneezing a bit, but she was sneezing before too. hmmm..

I'd say it's more a hindmilk thing than anything, both my kids would change there poo colour frequently (both Breastfed) so we never knew what we were gonna get when we took off the nappy if she is otherwise content I wouldn't worry to much try to take note of how long she feeds for Hailey was a grazer so she would have short frequent feeds, causing her poos to change constsantly, Ben was a not so frequent feeder but would feed for much much longer then Hailey so while his poos would change colour they wouldn't change as often as Hailey's did....gosh i hope that made sense

kim, she prob is ok likely she won't feed incorrectly. reducing the choc intake might be a good idea tho

if the colour is similar to the green on this website, it might be from oxidasation (like an apple going brown after you cut it).

if you've got a cold, you're creating antibodies, so not likely she'll get one

length of time on the breast is no indication of anything - so called snack feeders are normal, long feeders are normal a baby who feeds quickly is getting the correct amount of milk for them, as is the other sort. they all take the bulk of their feed in the first few minutes (once bf is established, sometimes from day dot, sometimes it takes a few weeks to co-ordinate the suck/swallow) . a baby who feeds often may get more fat in their diet than one who feeds every 3 hours. but unless you have oversupply, lactose overload is unlikely (tho not impossible of course). it should be called 'not enough fat' tho

one possibility is secondary lactose intolerance (i'd look at this as a last resort tho)

thanks Bron it is a similar colour to the dark green on this website. she's pooping more frequently and there's less of it, than with the "regular" coloured poos. she seems happy enough otherwise. l'l cut back on the chocolate though
