Strong ammonia smell from wet nappies

Just today DD2 has started having very very strong smelling nappies - it sounds awful, butt hey smell like cat wee!! So I'm guessing this is an ammonia smell?? It looks like it might be burning her slightly, but generally her skin is dealing with it pretty well. My question is - what could cause this strong smell and do I need to be conerned??

I'l love to know too. DS's wee goes through the same thing every now and then. It makes my eyes water when I change him and if I breath in through my mouth it makes me caugh, its really strong. It has tendencies to burn DS's skin too. To the point that he is had ulsar like adhesions on his bits

When we get this smell I do a strip wash and it's much better!
It's nasty isn't it. My eyes water!

I think it's a common stage they all go through at times. DS night nappies used to be a shocker & the smell was soooo hard to get rid of - that's when I started using a cap full of Dettol in the final rinse.

We go through that every time DS is teething stinky!
I found that putting them into soak with bicarb of soda does wonders

I find it happens when the nappies need a stripwash, or bub is teething.

The morning nappies always reek though.

Yep DD did that every time she was teething....it is just the worst. It is as if you opened the top on an ammonia bottle PHEWWW

I wouldn't recommend a strip wash every time you get that smell, you'll wreck your nappies in no time at all.

Try and get lots of fresh air to your nappies when they are drying.

I think soaking your nappies as soon as they are removed from bubba is the best way to effectivley clean them and get rid of that smell during those strong ammonia times. Its the only thing Ive found to work and Ive tried just about everything you can think of.
