    Default Suedecloth & rashy bum?

I have a full stash of suedecloth lined fitted nappies. They were fabulous with DD1 but I'm ending up putting DD2 in 'sposies every couple of days because she keeps getting rashy in the clothies.

Could it be the suedecloth? What's going on? I never had this problem before.

Bummer huh... esp when you think yep these nappies will do fine and then find one baby different to another in their nappy needs.

    But first things first...
Is it the entire nappy area?
    or just certain areas?
could there be teeth coming? Teeth are known to be nasty on bums!

You could try a lay-in liner of something other than suedcloth (even a flushable thin one) to see if that makes a difference?

Good thinking, 99. Will try a hemp liner.

It's the whole nappy area. It follows the shape of the insert flap. Teeth are coming, but this problem has been going on longer than the teeth have. I just haven't had the time to come on here & ask...

If there's detergent buildup (and can happen to anyone) like Joh said a strip wash could be good - might explain why it's the whole nappy area (buildup on the whole inner) and not just where the pee etc goes

    maybe? oh

I can't put suede cloth lined nappies on DD, after about 1/2 an hour tops her whole bum is bright red, I tried different nappies a few different times but it's definitely the suede cloth so now I just have to be careful not to buy anything with suede cloth in it. Bummer if that's the same as what's happening to your DD2 with the whole stash being sc

    Congratulations on 300 posts!

Erin, does she have sensitive skin reactions to other things too?

We had a full year of using synthetic inners with no problems, then suddenly, my bub rashed like heck to synthethic inners (mainly in the pockets and AIO nappies).

We had to go down the organic /natural fibres inners road - and go back to fitteds with woollies for increased ventilation. An area i had not ventured into before.

Seven months on, now i can put synthetic lined night nappies and maybe one synthetic lined day MCN on her during the day, and be ok (but i do lay in flannelette liners so the wetzone is not in contact with synthetics.

i got our fitted nappies that had synthetic toppers on the boosters and made my own version, with cotton velour as the topper. (Converted them).

    every bub is different heh?

Oh, i forgot to mention, atm i posted about the awful rash, adn got heaps of responses, so trying the natural inners was only ONE of the things we tried. other things were (and we still do them, to keep it under control)
    - mild wash detergent (no perfume in it)
    - only using water for nappy change time
    - nappy free time each change if possible
    - patting bottom dry with dry cloth wipe, before putting new nappy on
