Default Thrush, standard or allergy rash?

Hi there, my boy is 4 and a half months old and had gotten his first rash a couple of weeks back and I haven't been able to shake it since then--it comes and goes...

I am trying to work out what kind of rash my boy has here... I've attached a pic of the one on his stomach, the one on his bottom looks different again...

I have got him in disposables at the moment (sob) but the rash is still hanging around (but not as bad as when I put him in cloth). I am going to do the whole strip wash thing and try and work out what caused it because I want to continue using cloth, but first I want to treat the rash and know what kind it is...

Today for example, we were out and about and I didn't realise until about an hour later that he had pooed his nappy... of course when I went to change him it had flared up big time

I have been using Covitol cream which is quite effective (but is obviously not resolving it), and I also tried a Calendula balm which I got from Nature's Cradle but that wasn't effective at all... Today I tried Curash nappy cream but it's not as good as Covitol -- but maybe I need to keep using the Curash to see results?

Should I use an anti-fungal cream? I have Daktozin but I am reluctant to use it...

And can teething cause this?

Help! It's quite frustrating.

i doubt the poop or teeth is causing this, else it would be on his bum not his belly. could be a contact rash??

i would give the calendula a good go. i find you need to give it a day to really work at all and i also find you need to put a decent amount on.
i would give the calendula another go cos that stuff is really ace and also have you changed detergents recently cos i think like bron its in a place that would more signify a contact rash.....

Jaidan has the exact same rash in the same spot. He gets it from the washing liquid. No matter what I use he still gets it. Try some cortisone cream. We use some that he got on prescription and some moisturiser.

Thanks girls...

I was beginning to think it was from the detergent...

MissyMoo, what kind of detergent do you use?

I use amolin liquid. However he still gets it just not as bad as others. We have used EVERYTHING you can think of... everything at the supermarket, chemist and even ecostore and they all made it worse

Next on the list is soap nuts

Oh I also found what helped was washing his clothes seperate, with half liquid and doing an extra rinse. Didn't stop it but it did improve.

Thanks.

Thing is, I'm a bit baffled as to why it's only around his stomach area? And it also occurs when I have in disposables... I am using envirocare products (from the health food store).

I think its excema, Simon has that exact same rash it goes away if I bathe him in a water dispersable oil (QV) and slather him in Aqueous cream morning and night. You can get aqueous cream from the chemist over the counter, its a good, no perfume moisturiser that we use at work all the time.

Have you considered food allergy/intolerance?

If it only occurs when he's in disposables, perhaps this is when you are out?

What does he eat that is different when out?

My daughter and I are asthma/eczema people.
We are lactose intolerant, minimal yeast in bread (etc) and keep our diets free from articficial colours, flavours and preservatives (yes - completely!)

I could chat on this stiff for as long as I could cloth nappy stuff lol .. so if you want more info on this line of thinking - shoot me some questions!

Hi again. It's either eczema or a food allergy. I am practically ommitting everything my diet now, it's quite exhausting! I recently learnt that tomatoes can be a culprit for eczema too, and I use tomato puree a lot in my cooking... (I don't eat tomatoes on their own cause it will give him a sore bottom for sure.)

When I bathe him, the redness on his skin flares up and then it calms down afterwards. I have tried many different things in the water, including oat meal. I think it's just the heat that does it?

I've got his bottom rash under control... I've switched to Weleda nappy cream and it's fantastic. It's just the pin prick spots on his tummy now... they come and go.
