    Default Sore bum

Ashton has a little bit of nappy rash. Not really bad and doesn't seem to be bothering him, but I would prefer to deal with it now then leave it and let it get worse (and bleed or something ). It's just around him bum where his poos sit Unfortunately I know changing him as soon as he poos would be the best option but it just isn't doable as most of the time I have no idea he has done it until the next nappy change!

I am using Lansinoh at the moment on his bum. It seems to be working well after just 2 applications.

My question is is this ok for his bum? (I use it for my nipples).

Also is this ok on the nappies? I have been using horrible woolworths liners the 2 times I used it but hate them.

Is there any nappy rash stuff that is natural and ok for nappies?

There are alternatives you can use, raw silk liners are reusable and natural.

I alos have come across these two organic creams.

Weleda Rash Relief Cream - ecobabe: biodegradable nappies, organic baby care, modern cloth nappies

Nordic Nappies Bambo Nature - Little Innoscents Nappy Rash Cream

I would have thought lansinoh was absolutely fine. I actually found that 'home brand' nappy liners gave DS horrible rashes! I had to stop using them even though Mum had given me 4 boxes of them.

Just make sure you are not using the same tube for your nipples. Also try using some microfleece as a liner to stop any staining or build up on the actual nappy.

its not the same tube. just some sample things the midwife gave me
the liners haven't made it worse luckily, but i hate that they can't be flushed and arent biodegradable.
I like the lansinoh but am worried about it on the nappies. I will be making some stay dry liners soon but in the meantime I don't want to ruin the nappies, or make his butt worse

Ari is 6 months and he is constantly pooing , little ones all the time and you cant smell them...might change when we start solids .

I occasionally use Lansinoh on him but often a lot of nappy free time helps, great that the weather is now warming up a bit so that is more practical. I hate that he has a red bottom though .

Silk liners are supposed to be healing but the only thing I can suggest, something I fail at running around with all the kids , is to check regularly just in case.

If you are worried about the nappies NOW and want a super quick fix you could always just use some flanelette? Maybe you have an old pair of jammies somewhere you can cut up just to keep the cream off the nappies? I use Sudocrem and some microfleece liners.

As far as i know it's best to keep any nappy rash cream off nappies.

You said you are going to do some liners soon, have you got some microfleece for it? I bought some microfleece for mine and still have tons left if you want I can post to you, it's just sitting in the drawer here. I can probably even cut some out for you and just post them done?

there seems to be TWO types of nappy rash creams

    - the ones that are petrochemical based e.g barrier creams, like Bepanthen, stuff you get at the chemist, Woollies.

    - the ones that are not petrochemical based e.g Paw Paw salve by Simmons, (not to be confused with the Paw Paw Salve by Lucas, that i see often at health food shops in the red tub). Ecobabe sells the Simmons one.

The petrochemical based ones are the ones that interfere with MCN, so if you use those, then having a liner in the nappy, which will take the brunt of the cream, will "save" your MCN (from becoming less absorbent). Cos that's what the issue is, the cream interfering with the absorbency of the hemp or bamboo. (well, that's as much as i can make it out, after reading lots of threads for the last few years - sometimes i read so much, it's a bit overwhelming - so i hope i have remembered the right stuff - if not, i'm sure someone will come along and re-jig it for me!)

i wanna go check out the organic ones that twinklelilly put links for.

I also tried a very nice Hemp Bottom Balm for nappy rash. that worked well.

I only use the "heavy guns" (the barrier ones) when the NR is REALLY bad. Like heatwave time, acidic teething poos time. WITH the liners, in our case, i make double layered flanelette liners cos my bub rashes up to microfleece liners now.

In Seach of: 2nd hand plain handknit jumpers size 4 and up
2nd hand bamboo kids and ladies clothing
