I was reading somewhere (maybe here, maybe not) about something in wipes that is bad for you.
Any ideas?

Well it always concerns me that using stuff like Jif doesn't get the crayon off S' table but the wipes take it off! I don't know about any documentation though.
its probably the alcohol in the wipes that cleans the table. even some of the ones that say they are alcohol free have a form of alcohol in them.
I think DH spotted something in one of the brands of wipes (use to buy) and said he didn't want them anywhere near DS bottom. Cloth wipes with only water here now so I have no worries and have forgotten everything DH told me. No wipes here to show him for him to remember either.
i'm guessing may disposable wipes also have parabens, to make them smell nice.

Found it!
Are baby wipes and lotions a danger to your children?
Propylene glycol
In case anyone else wanted to read about it![]()
Looking at disposable wipe ingredients once I was surprised to see at least two ingredients I used to use when working in a lab to extract DNA (that can't be good for a baby's skin!).

Missymoo, when people post about Nappy Rash on their bubs, one of the troubleshooting thigns that often gets suggested, is to avoid the commercial baby wipes, and just use clothwipes with water instead. That's where you might have read about this issue.
I started off using the JJ "sensitive" wipes from teh supermarket - naively thinking, surely this company woudln't sell products for bubs if they weren't safe? But even these "Sensitive, No Alcohol" wipes DID irritate my bub, and from reading the ingredients, there WAS alcohol in htere!
We swapped over to cloth wipes with water, and it's been a good thing.
PARABENS
Having just recently been made aware of waht parabens are (cheap preservative) and how they are in SOOO many household /skincare/ bodycare products, i have started looking at the ingreaditent list for lots of our stuff.
i have chucked out
- moisturisers
- deodorants
- foundation
- sunscreen
all sorts
and am slowly finding out what i can replace them with , that are SLS and Paraben free.
some makeup products are so tiny, there is nowhere to provide an ingredient list or there is one, in sucyh tiny writing, i have no hope of reading it!
but back to the question you posted, we use cloth wipes and water for home, and the Nature Babycare (from Israel) when out. Thanks for reminding me, i should go check if the Nature Babycare wipes contain parabens - i hope not! they are the most "green" wipes i see at the supermarket!!
Ingredients: Water, Glycerin, Benzyl Alcohol, Phenoxycthanol, Potassium Sorbate, Aloe Barbadensis lefat extract, Panthenol, Cocadmidopropylamine Oxide, Lactic Acid, Tocophcrol
so alcohol, but no parabens. phewl.
LDHmummy, *cough* are you going to adjust your sig? 46 wks pregnant???
Coincidentally I was reading about propylene glycol today, as an ingredient in some commercial soaps. The article I was reading was from the US, and noted that propylene glycol was banned in Europe but still allowed in the US.
I think your link on baby wipes is also a US site.
So, if we accept that this stuff is bad (it sounds like it is, but I'd like to read some information from a site that wasn't trying to sell me something before making up my mind on the subject) - is it permitted in Australian products or not? I don't have a packet of wipes around to check if they list ingredients & if this is used or not.
Much safer to stick to cloth wipes & not have to worry about what chemicals may be lurking in them.
