    Default Fleece lining problem...?

Okay, so I *think* that Sarah may have a problem with fleece-lined nappies. For example, she was perfectly fine to spend the entire night in a whizz kidz night nappy (bamboo throughout, no liner), which was quite sopping wet this morning, but as soon as she spent a little time in her Itti snap-in AI2 (original ones with fleece-topped hourglass booster on top) she turned red, dry and scaly... and she didn't even do a wee in it.

So I'm guessing I can assume from this that it isn't "nappy rash" as such (especially if wee or poo wasn't involved), but perhaps eczema/dermatitis (which she does get fairly mildly all over) from being in contact with fleece?

I think I saw a thread recently (could search but brain not working quite right!) in which someone mentioned using some pieces of bamboo velour as lay-in liners?? I am just reluctant to sell off all my fleece-lined nappies as we are currently running at a perfect stash quantity (well, we have a few spares, but that means I can have a perpetual nappy bag all packed just sitting in the car), and I just don't have the time to be hunting for more nappies to buy that are natural inners.

Any ideas? (Oh, and if the velour liners are a good idea, does that fabric need sewing, i.e. will it fray? Or can I just cut it up like fleece? Seems sacrilege to cut up all my lush bamboo velour, but would be cheaper than swapping half my stash!)

    Thanks, Lori

    this happened to us too.

in the initial stages, i HAD to 100% stop using the synthetic inner nappies completely, and just use anything in our stash that had natural inners.

my first thing was to sew up (overlock) double layers of flannelette (old pj's, old sheets that were still fluffy) and make flannelette liners.

my second thing was to sew up (overlock) double layers of cotton velour. that is cheaper than bamboo velour.

i have heard someone else just cuts up cotton velour (single layer) to lie in the nappies.

Now i use natural inner MCN most of the time, but when we use (sparingly) the synthetic inner nappies, i lie in the cotton velour inners.

i had to experiment to find out how much exposure to sythetic inners, my DD could cope with (and not rash). the answer is "not very much" and it's mitigated by use of the cotton velour liners.

i think if you were desperate and had no way of sewing up your own, i would just cut the flannelette or velour to size and use as is. it would look neat and might fray, but who cares, the main thing is that your child's skin is not irritated.

In Seach of: 2nd hand plain handknit jumpers size 4 and up
2nd hand bamboo kids and ladies clothing
