    Default Synthetic inners causing this?

Laila has been having really bad nappy rash in the past two weeks. It got to the point of bleeding - it was just horrible

I ended up putting sposies on her for a couple of days so that I could drown her bottom with cream (Gaia nappy rash cream and the chemist suggested using an antifungal too) and it cleared up.

Back in cloth then and blow me down (sorry watching too much Wiggles lately ) she gets it back again. Not quite as bad but still...

First I thought it might be toxic teething wee/poo mix - this certainly contributes to the problem though.

Today I tried her in only nappies with natural inners (I only have a few though) and it's looking good again so now I'm thinking she has suddenly developed a sensitivity to synthetic inners?

I really don't want to have to change my stash all over again. We've just had a major shift to side-snapping nappies recently. I was thinking of maybe cutting in half some of my Itti Bitti velour wipes to make nappy liners because I have no natural inner nappies for tomorrow. That would be a solution wouldn't it?

Sorry for long ramble. Just need to find a way around this - if thats what it is in the first place...

    Thanks for reading

I just use liners... well really i use the BBH/BBB inners as liners. Poor Ash gets terrible nappy rash if I dont He only has to wear one nappy for an hour and he is red again.

jojo, this happened to us at 14 months old

one compromise (in function and in cost)
i made (overlocked) double layer liners myself, some out of cotton velour (which is 80% cotton, 20% synthetic) and also some out of flannelette (100% cotton).

you lay these in the nappies with synthetic inners, and then at least baby's wetzone is not in contact with synthetic inners. You do have to change more frequently though.

i did end up making any further MCN purchases after that, to be natural fibre inner nappies.

when the nappy rash was at it's worst, i reverted to the most simple mcn e,g prefolds, fitteds with natural fibres, if i had to, i would have gone back to flats, = with woollies over the top - for the maximum ventilation.

changed everything we could to MOST simple
    e.g water and cloth wipes
gentlest washing powder we could find and very little used
only used staydry inner for nights
    nappy free time
patting bottom dry with facewasher after cleaning bottom

it's really upsetting to see bad nappy rash, i hope you find a solution for her.

do you have any flannelette (even cut up old sheets?) or cotton velour? even just cut up for makeshift liners, i'm sure that would be better than nothing.

bamboo velour would be nice for liners too, if you had it.

I had this same problem, and have now ruined a few of my nappies with nappy rash cream as it even soaked through the liners I used. I thought it was a really bad case of thrush and so now we are on pro-biotics ( a special children's one from my naturopath) and calendula cream and it seems to be clearing up. I did find the natural fibres were much better too. Everything was sticking to him though since it was like an open wound and then when I would change him it would make him bleed again. I was almost beside myself! We left with him without nappies on for a couple of overnighters with lots of towels and a plastic sheet underneath him. That really seemed to help too. We are having toxic wee problems at the moment too, so I'm sure that's contributed. Good luck. Hope it gets better. It's heartbreaking!

i think it might also depend on where she is developmentally. ie teething? what she is eating? changes in her bowel flora due to changing diet etc?

I can use microfleece inners okay, but I can't use suedecloth any longer. And yes when K rashes up - I use bamboo velour inner nappies, works a treat
