Default Burn like rash on belly

We use BBH bamboo and hemp nappies for overnight. We've used them for a while, but recently, when we changed DD in the morning, her skin looked like it had been burnt - really red, not in the folds, and the skin peeled off after a couple of days. DD is a tummy sleeper and the "burns" were towards her front all the way up to her belly button and a bit around her legs.

We put her into disposables until the redness and peeling disappeared. While she was in disposables, I washed all of her nappies in 60C with no detergent about 4 times. And then dryer-ed them.

We tried the BBH Bamboo last night again (7pm) and this morning (6:30am), no poop yet, she was red again.

DH and I are trying to figure out what is different. We are still using the same box of detergent that we had when we started with cloth a couple of months ago. One of the changes that we know is that we finished our sorbolene cream and was using up our Johnson & Johnson cream. We have also just recently switched to formula from breastfeeding for a couple of feeds a day.

DD is nearly 11 months old.

If you have any thoughts or advise, it would be much appreciated. While it does not sound as bad as some of the other rashes reported on this forum and it does not seem to slow down DD much, it still brings tears to my eyes to see such redness and peeling .

Can you avoid the cream for a few days and see if that helps?

I guess the other thing is what goes in obviously effects what comes out - so her wee will be different now that she's having some formula. You might need to try out a few different kinds and see if that has an affect on the rash situation also?
Read my blog! or not... I guess I can't force you... or can I???!!!

I agree with Linda - could be either of those things, also maybe the wetness of the nappy is rubbing on her? Can you try a microfleece liner so she stays dry maybe?? Also maybe she has toxic teething wee at the moment?

We've had this with both of our kids and it was usually when they were in the thick of teething with eye teeth or molars. Their wee gets very toxic and strong. Does the nappy have an ammonia type smell when you take it off that takes your breath away? I found that we had to switch to using a pocket with a suedecloth inner like the BB magicalls or our Bumgenius stuffed like crazy with bamboo inserts. Make sure you do a strip wash on them too after this little phase.

Oh my! I've just come online to post a similar question. BBH bamboo at night and all of a sudden a burn-like rash that looks so painful (although doesn't seem to bother bub). She has been teething, so perhaps that's it. Also rewashed but no difference. Might try a super-boosted pocket and see what happens. Hope your little one improves Petitelei.
