Re: Wipes question
Maybe too much information, but here goes:
I wet three wipes in water - warm in winter if I am organised, especially if it is night or if Gwen is not in the mood for a nappy change. (My wipes are not as big as I should have made them so I do 3 even if I don't think there is any poo in case I need to wipe and wipe and wipe.) Then we go to the nappy table. Unused wipes stay on the nappy table and get re-warmed under the tap for next time. This was our routine even before cloth wipes as we bought hospital dry wipes in bulk as we didn't want to use premoistened commercial wipes and she grew out of the little make-up wipe circles very quick.
In summer a spray bottle on the nappy table does until your baby drives you crazy going for it.
In the backpack I always have a drink bottle with water, so I just take dry wipes and wet them with a drink bottle. I have a purple spray bottle on order from Fruit Salad, though, which I hope to use instead.
As we have nappy service, the wipes (and now liners as Gwen's bum looks better with liner use) go in a bucket - one bucket for soiled ones which I later hose down into a bucket with our shower-rose-on-a-cord (still waiting on parts to install a Little Squirt), another bucket for ones that don't need hosing. I do the hosing just before washing about every 3 days. I trick my front loader into starting with a rinse: I do "rinse and spin" with "rinse hold" so it doesn't spin, then "drain". Then add other towels and things that can take a hot wash, 1/2 detergent and 60 degree "coloured cotton" wash. Usually line dry. In laundry emergencies I use the washed/not dried wipes.
