or is it? I've tried many or most things, silk liners, stopped using microfleece, curash powder only at every change, bum free time, daktarin cream, bepanthen cream, bepanthen ointment, curash cream...
we use solely MCN, I had been using microfleece liners and was using the cream with those in but thought they may have been contributing so stopped and used only flushable liners instead. This hasn't really helped.
she's not terribly rashy, its mostly blisters- and at the moment only one, but its nasty it wasn't as bad as it is until I decided I was going to only use daktarin on it (that is for thrush isn't it?) as blisters supposedly mean thrush?
all of the above I've given a good go by themselves not all at once hehe. Often it would help but a nasty bout of teething poo would set her off again.
I even bought a sample pack of disposables at woollies today as I'm buggered what else to try. We haven't used a sposie in 13 months and not really keen to use these...
Any ideas of things that it might be or to try next? other than the dreaded sposie? or should I just lather her in cream and put her in sposies?
not that this helps but I find for some babies it's the exact combination, that works and keeps the bum happy.
for one child this may mean a 'dry' bum with cornstarch powder, for another this may mean a 'moister' bum with calendula.
for Quinn for example, his combo is MCN+Gaia moisturiser for wiping - 100% happy all the time that way. If I change to just water for too long, or even cammomile for too long, the redness can creep in IF he has a massive pee straight after a clean nappy goes on ie so I may not have noticed.
For Brooke and Jake just a wash with water and they were right to go, although Brooke had the calendula. For Zeke, his was water/cammomile tea for the wipes wash, then cornstarch for his bum.
It's worth noting too that B1 and J were in terries with those washable liner thingies like Chux, Zeke was in 100% MCN, and so has Quinn been.
While in one way it makes it SO hard to have all the possible variations that there are, in another way this is a BIG bonus because there will be something to suit every child... iykwim?
the hard thing is when they get red and sore like that, even when they're healed, they seem more prone to re-redding which can make it REALLY hard to know whether what you're doing is working or not iykwim.
My favourite combo as a general thing:
a few drops of olive oil in the bath, nothing else
Gaia (diluted half half with water if you like) baby moisturiser on the wipes
calendula ointment to heal if required
and once healed, then Cornstarch powder (pure, White Wings) at each change if required
for us if it's a 'sneaky poo' that's caused things then this usually shows it's effects within a few days
and nappy-free time helps lots.
Good thing about the cornstarch is if you don't use it, goes in the cupboard. Ditto for the olive oil and the calendula gets used for other things here as well. so nothing wasted if it's not the combo that works for you.
Above all at the first hint, get on top of it (which I'm sure you know/do)
Good luck!

We have done the rounds with Lucas and rashes......we went to a dermatologist this year and she said it is best to make sure the area is dry ie use a hair dryer on cool setting to ensure the blister/sore if open is not wet. then use a little savlon (antibacterial cream) and then use a barrier cream which makes sure the area isn't wet when covered and creating a little hot house for germs/bacteria to grow. The other option is to take your little one to get it looked at too. We ended up using a cream that was prescription which had a 2 or 5% tar mixed into it. Smells awful but worked in a week to clear it up - it is what they use for severe ecxma.
thanks that actually gives me a few new things to try. We have the gaia lotion but not calendula cream so I don't mind trying that LOL
I thought it might be thrush but its much worse after using the thrush cream for 2 days- should there be some improvement? I have been putting canestan rinse in with the nappies in case it was thrush and do them on warm cycle but will try doing hot washes!
the worsening after the thrush cream (I think that happened last time I tried it too) leads me to think I need to keep her drier as per your advice mum2lucas- as whenever we've dried her right off and used the curash powder it does clear a bit unless she has another rotten poo. Whereas the creams don't always do much. The bepanthen antiseptic cream did help a bit too- I guess that's a little like savlon.
I'm grateful that my dh is so open and happy about using MCN, as most of my friends would just tell me to go use sposies!
oh does anyone know if thrush (if it is thrush) stays in the nappies for ages? I have the microfleece lined nappies quarantined for about a month, maybe it would be better to use those and hot wash the others?
yes I banished the microfleece nappies- though not suedecloth as that doesn't seem to bother her?- and even put her in bbh bamboo fitteds and woollies. Or just the bbh themselves.
I have a feeling the microfleece is bothering her but more so when she has a problem already it heats up the area - just a theory though lol. The problem hasn't gone away this last month or so not using the microfleece lined nappies, though we definitely had some initial improvement.
Before we stopped the microfleece it was getting to the stage where she was waking in the middle of the night with her FB Dreams on crying as they were bothering her. Not a problem with her waking since we gave them a break, although I've used them a couple of times since but trying to stick with MMPN's and a honeyboy night nappy (lined with velour)
Just to add too we don't use any chemicals, wash in amolin/purity liquids and generally just plain water for wipes- sometimes I've tried sorbolene or gaia skin soothing lotion if the water bottle is empty lol.
I should make some flannelette liners for the suedecloth nappies and try that too, just hadn't got around to it.
you haven't mentioned washing powder at all, have you tried changing that at all?
we found that Ben had problems with most commercial washing detergents, we ended up using Herbon liquid from the healthfood shop. I also made sure I used a deep rinse for the nappies rather than the eco-rinse setting.
the other detergents didn't cause any problems with the rest of his clothes, it was only the nappy area that was a problem.
