See, this is really starting to annoy me (first it happened to Brooke, and now you
).Why are people so quick to jump to conclusions? Almost makes you not want to take your baby to a doctor again! FWIW, Hunter used to get REALLY bad nappy rashes when he was in disposables, he would blister up big time, and weep. I can't imagine how I would have felt if people started throwing accusations around like that ![]() I was thinking, if it is (which I doubt it is) then is it possible that your DH maybe rubbed his lips, didn't wash his hands and then changed Gracie's nappy? I mean, that would spread the virus wouldn't it? I hope you get it all sorted out soon! -Tina

Oh Bec how upsetting for you, and poor little Gracie!
Em has had a funny rash on and off of late, and now has two small pimply blister type things on her vulva. Wonder if I should be taking her to a doctor, although the rash itself has cleared up and she doesn't seem to be in any pain... I'd kinda put it down to my own hormonal changes as she has had some pimples on her chin as well... Any chance it could be something like that? |

Aiden doesn't have a rash at all, just a blister that looks EXACTLY like a cold sore/herpes blister. It just happens sometimes and it can happen anywhere around the genital area and bum (basically anywhere that poo and wee reaches).
I don't think you can pass the herpes zoster virus from mouth to genitals, just mouth to mouth and genitals to genitals. I will look in my nursey books and double check later on to be sure though. |

I've had a reaction to washing powder that the GP insisted be swabbed for herpes before, even though it was TOTALLY impossible to be that. And I've seen Maeve react to acidic poos with similar reddening and weeping blisters, and again, so NOT herpes. So I know it's perfectly possible. Poor Gracie, and poor you. I hope you get peace of mind after Thursday.

I don't think you can either Genie, and the virus would have to be present on the mouth for it to be passed anyway (ie, coldsore present). It's probably just really bad nappy rash and because you saw a doc you don't usually see, they don't know you or your history. This is why I always try to see my regular doc if I can, but I know it's not always possible.
I hope the test results come back soon Bec and put your mind at rest

I've been told before that the cold sore virus can be passed from mouth to genitals. Since I get cold sores fairly regularly I'm obsessive about washing my hands! Someone close to Grace would have had to have an active cold sore to have passed it on though, and I'm sure you'd have noticed that!
Hope it's all better soon!

Yup Melinda you are right - if someone touches their cold sore then, say, puts nappy cream on the baby can get HSV1 on their genitals so you have to be really careful if you have active cold sores and are changing a bub. The dilema is that DH hasn't had a bout of cold sores for at least 6 months and nobody else who changes her nappy has cold sores
Bring on Thursday.Bec.

Bec try not to worry too much. Herpes can look like a few things ( or a few things can look like herpes) sophie had hand, foot and mouth disease which actually mostly appeared in her nappy area and that is little herpes-like blisters, we actually thought she had chicken pox (which is another herpes disease). If it was really herpes, and her first 'attack' , it would be *really* bad and painful, the first attack generally is. Also it is unusual to get herpes on skin, its generally on mucous membranes. Staph skin infections often have little blisters. Also you say it is going away- herpes blisters scab up before they go away. So try your best to *stop worrying* (easier said than done)and stay away from Google!!!!!!!!!!
And grrrrr to doctors who do their best to make mothers have a breakdown. What kind of communication is that?
