I pre-rinse to get out the really wet strong wee from the nappies because I dry pail. My DD is 22mo so her wees are big and for some reason rather strong on the nose. The poo is rinsed off before they go in the bucket, but I do like to give them the extra rinse of a pre rinse too. If the nappies weren't as strong and wet I would probably not bother with the pre-rinse, for example a newborn to 6mo baby.
I think if I had water restrictions, then rinsing by hand or in the nappy bucket would save on the water and it would then go on the garden once the nappies were out! Hey, it is all personal preference. I also like to avoid having buckets of water within reach of toddlers and my laundry doesn't have space for a bench to put a water filled nappy bucket out of reach! happy laundering, it's yet another good drying day in Wagga Wagga!! cheers,

I wash the clothes and then either wring them out of the machine into the trough and throw the nappies into the water or collect enough of the water to use to wash them later and then do the same with the washing rinse water.

We're on tank water so I chuck everything in together to fill up the load.
Never had a problem with smells or leftovers. I use a Little Squirt first on the real yuck ones but otherwise they all go in together!

I am washing nappies with my other clothes, (whites) never have a problem.........I prewash pooy ones first........I do full loads alot here with 5 kids so the cycle is long and any nasties are going to be washed out for sure.........plus the sun kills anything that survives the machine ;O)
I never have issues with smelling urine on washed clothes, but I am using a powder with a fragrance. With Brisbane water restrictions this is the common sense approach for us,

I have hemp inserts which get lint everywhere and I'm always using the clothes brush to get the lint off just about everything (including the lounge room rug!!) as it is. If I put them in with other clothes etc. we would have lint on everything. It's a pity because I usually try to re-use some of our rinse water etc. when doing my clothes washing but I just can't do that with water the hemp's been washed in.
Maybe the longer we keep using them the less the lint will be a problem. |

I've never put nappies in with other washing......didn't think it was the 'done thing', thought it would be a bit gross, but I might start doing so now. It would be good, because then I can do nappies more often instead of waiting until I have enough to justify a load.
LOL, it's not like I am up to date on my *normal* washing anyway ROFL. |

I was washing them with my flanelette wipes and wish a few lightly soiled clothes (like babies socks or tshirts that arent very dirty) then someone advised me not to wash them with the flanelette wipes, so I have been doing them on their own ever since.
But after reading this post maybe I'll start washing some clothes with them again. Cant hurt, right? I dont want to waste water on my 9 nappies that Im needing to wash everyday. (untill my stash increases)
