Default Nappies with normal washing

I am keen to just chuck my nappies in with my normal washing where possible, to conserve water. But is there anything that they shouldn't be washed with? Towels?

I do nappies with normal washing and chuck anything white in to fill up the load, towels, clothes, underwear, anything. If the nappies are particularly dirty I will do a rinse cycle before putting the regular washing on top. I also put lemon myrtle essential oil into the rinse cycle in an attempt to kill any nasties, but I now understand that the concentration required to kill nasties is much greater than a few drops in the wash.

just make sure you stilll only use half the amount of detergent. and depends what kind of nappies you are washing, things like fleece and new towels dont really mix, the fleece ends up covered in fluff.

Yep, I am another rinse the nappies then add other stuff on top. I don't have a lot of fleece though, so haven't been caught yet with fluff on everything. I don't even use half the washing powder and haven't had detergent build up problems or any other issues. Definitely avoid fabric softener though!!!
Only thing to also remember is that if you have done a prerinse and spin on the nappies don't then fill the machine because spun clothes take less space. I look at the amount of room the nappies take up before the rinse then add the extra clothes to take this into consideration. If you fill the load the load is then overfull and won't come as clean or more importantly, not as well rinsed.
Have a good day. It's a great drying day in Wagga Wagga.
cheers,

I wash nappies every second day and if there isn't enough nappies for a full load then I just chuck some clothes in. Usually undies, socks etc. Figuring all the same kinda nasties if there is any.

I rinse my pooey nappies with a squirt beforehand, so I don't have that issue. I use tri-nature powder so I don't have problems with the chemicals, brightners, softeners that are in some powders.

Just chuck em in I say!

I'm for chucking everything in too! I wash once a day, with a mixed load of nappies and anything else that needs a wash. I soak the nappies in a bucket with a herbal pre-wash powder, then when I do the daily wash I rinse them all by hand under cold water (we don't have any water restriction issues in Hobart) then into the machine with everything else. I use the normal amount of detergent & haven't had a prob with build-up tho I use a natural detergent as anything else aggravates DD1's eczema, so maybe that's why. I put the fleece & minky ones in a laundry bag to discourage pilling. Then cold wash and line dry. Works for me!!

I just wash my pads/pantyliners with the other clothes.

I'm the opposite. Nappies are washed by themselves, or with my pads.

For me, I can smell nappies a mile away if they have been pood in once! So washing them with clothes, nope. Not sure if it's because our town water is treated bore water why I can smell them.

When we move, if we're on tank water only I dare say it'll change.

I actually wash mine with our clothes too! so far i've been doing this because haven't yet had enough to fill the machine nappies alone (soon though!). But i must admit i never put it on rinse cycle before hand... is this bad??? i have a front loader, do i have to do a rinse cycle, then put the powder in and set it to cold? usually i just put the powder in (half normal amount) and wash on cold. What does the extra rinse before washing do?

I wash the nappies with everything, clothes, towels, etc. I tend to do them more with the towels (I have fitted nappies so lint isn't an issue).

If there are a few particularly pooey nappies I'll just do a nappy only wash.

I only use a small amount of detergent (1 dsp of Planet Ark) with all of my washing anyway, so it's a non-issue for me.
