Default Lanolin Alternative?

I've spent a loooooooooot of tie explaining wool/lanolin how it works (Especially for nights etc) to a customer recently. Now, customer informs me that she would like to use an eco-based (preferably non-animal product) wool care product instead of lanolin - but to lanolise her soakers.

Um...before I tell her that what she is proposing largely defeats the purpose of what she wants to do (avoid all synthetics - like fleece, eco and organic only) I thought I would ask here.

Is there actually non-animal lanolin alternatives? I have never heard of such things but that doesn't mean they don't exist!

lanolin is pretty eco friendly I would imagine, she does realise it comes from the sheep's wool itself and that wool is an animal product???? Maybe explain to her you're basically putting back into the wool what the production process takes out.

LOL - I thought I had! She does have an excuse...she is 35 weeks pregnant (I mean, I get confused like this regularly and I don't have a baby-bump excuse ). Shall try again....

From my mini-hunt today, there is no organic lanolin available in Australia (yet) so where do you get yours, Kris, if you don't mind me asking?

I have suggested a few things re lanolin to this customer and re-explained why wool needs to be lanolised, so we will see.

Thanks v much for the replies!

I wonder if the customer realises that the lanolin is extracted from wool after it is shorn, it's not a product of the actual body of the sheep after slaughter? It's wool fat, not sheep fat.

This might be getting closer to what she wants, although it still has lanolin in it... http://www.nurturenappies.com.au/sto...t.asp?One=1055

The Wee Wuns also stocks Disana wool care products, but I can't seem to link to the right page.

Darlings Downunder stocks SudzNDudz lanolin spray, it doesn't say it on there but I'm pretty certain that it is made from organic lanolin.

What on earth is organic lanolin? Surely all real lanolin comes from the wool and is therefore organic? Or are the sheep on organic grass or something? Genuine question.

The sheep are raised on an organic farm and do not receive any chemicals in their food (all feed must be certified organic, generally grown on the same property) and the sheep aren't dipped in chemicals, no chemical drenches or medicines etc. Therefore there are no chemical residues in the wool or lanolin.

They taste pretty good too!
