the foam thingo?
when i replaced mine the guy told me if you cant see through it you need a new one - i really need another new one, and im way too lazy to clean it! i just brush off the huge bits of lint say every 5 uses that completely covers it
yeah abit dangerous - but the machine is so so old and still goes like the clappersmaybe coz its an old built to last one, not a modern one?

hmm am i talking about the same thing???

I remember they used to advertise the dryer sheets years ago, but I haven't heard of them in years & thought they were one of those fad accessories that come & go.

But maybe if you use fabric softener, something similar might coat your lint filter? I don't use the stuff (gives me a rash), so not something I need to worry about. But I might go check my lint filter anyway, just to see what happens.

I understand what you are all saying ... but I posted it more for the actual filter not so much the dryer sheets.

The dryer does run hotter and longer if the filter is not clean. It doesn't need to be washed every load ... but once every couple of months or so ... depending on use.
But the most important is taking off any gathered lint after each load.

Okay, I just tested mine. Now remember, I don't use fabric softener & I don't use dryer sheets. And, the water stayed pooled on top of the filter!

I've cleaned it now obviously . Thanks for the info Sharyn.

I might go clean the lint filter I don't use softern or dryer sheets but it hasn't been cleaned using water in 3 years or so.

Ohh I'm so embarrassed to say this, but I had never cleaned the lint filter the whole time we've had our dryer (about 6 months, second hand). It started smoking the other day and I checked the filter, it was disgusting, a huge big thick disc of lint

Close call, I'll never forget again!

I remove all lint every time I use the dryer. Says so on a sticker on the dryer so I see it every time I use it!

Where did it say in the OP about those fabric softener sheets? I've reread it a few times and can't see it anywhere????

We used them when we lived in the US, they're super common there. The clothes would be ridiculously static without them. It's weird as we never get that static here so don't need them anyway.
