Default nappies feel stiff?

I have bought some baby beehinds nappies from someone. When I got them (already used) they felt lovely. Now when I wash them, they feel so stiff, not very comfy feeling at all! I don't know why...any ideas?

bamboo or hemp? Mine have always gotten stiff after a while, just tumble dry them if possible (for 10 mins when almost dry) Has anyone had success with washing/lectric soda in keeping them soft?

I have both. The non-coloured ones (I can't remember which are the bamboo & hemp LOL) are the stiff ones though. I don't have a dryer.

I had some bamboo beehinds come to me stiff and crunchy and not at all stretchy like the ones I had from new. It has taken a few weeks but they are softer now, though will never regain their stretch I think. I presume that they had been washed in a front loader and maybe tumbledried on hot? or else line dried cripsy. I have been tumbling them each time on low to get them soft again. I though front loaders were the bees knees of washers but when it comes to nappies it seems they flatten fluffy things. I have a Kleenmaid and I think it is quite gentle for a top-loader.

i just rub mine with my hands/friction to slightly soften them...
i do try an avoid all hemp nappies for the 'harshness' though

yep, me too. We don't have a dryer.
also giving them a shake around before you hang them on the line works a bit too... fluffs the fibres up and works any kinks out

My ones have gone stiff too. I thought it was because of the line drying......i will chuck them in the dryer to see if this helps.
The hemp ones are the ones i found to go stiff. Will stick to bamboo from now on.

I agree with the above, but also want to add that I don't think they ever stay as soft as when you get them brand new...no matter how you wash and dry!

Thanks for the tips. I will try shaking them out before drying, and also rubbing them afterwards. I think I'll steer clear of hemp though now too, I really like nappies to be soft.

I've found the best way to soften them back again is to shake/rub them when they are almost dry. If I shake them straight out of the machine, they still feel fairly stiff when dry, but if I go around & do it after they've been on the line for a while, it softens them up incredibly.

Also, turn down the spin cycle if you are using a front loader, mine is capable of doing 1000 rpm, but I put it down to 600 (my lowest setting) for nappies.

And, you could try putting them in a dryer on low, with a face cloth or wipe that you've dampened.

And, my coloured bamboo ones go even stiffer than the non-coloured hemp ones. Main reason why I'm not in love with bamboo like everyone else seems to be.
