Default storing nappies for a few years

Mila has some gorgeous nappies that I dont feel I can part with just yet. I really dont want to use them on lollipop as they are just too girly.

If I was to wash them and store them in those plastic tubs will they be OK? Or will the elastic and other materials like PUL breakdown.

I am keeping them in hope we have another girl someday. Is this silly? Realistically we wouldnt even try to concieve again till lollipop is at least 1yr old. So thats storing them for 2-3 years....and I might have another boy!

Should I just get over the attachment, sell them to fund larger naps for lollipop and then buy more girly ones if that happens. I am sure in that time there will be so many more fantastic naps. I mean just in the time Mila has been in nappies there are new makers, styles and fabrics like minkee and bamboo.

Thanks from the confused and hoarding one.

I wouldn't store them in plastic tubs. I'd put them inside a pillowcase or similar.
How about just keep the special ones?

Coming from a heirloom sewing background. My take on it is.

Wash well - making sure all stains etc are out - cause they'll set permanently if they aren't out before you store them.

Rinse the nappies well so that no residue remains - of detergent or anything else.

Make sure your nappies are dry - they should smell fresh and clean - no hay smell or anything else.

Don't store in plastic - as it sweats Try and store somewhere cool and dry - no extreme changes of temp - like a roof space or shed.

Store as you would any heirloom garment - wrapped in acid free tissue in a breathable box - I use some lavender to keep the bugs away - but not on the garments iykwim.

Check on a regular basis for creepy crawlies.

Be prepared that some of your elastic may perish if stored for extended periods.

What about storing them in a cupboard until after lollipop is born to give yourself time to get used to not using the girly ones? Then you may be able to sort through them & keep the ones that are special to you.

I have sold a lot and the remaining ones are ones that were fantastic to use, customs, and hyenad nappies. So maybe 10 all up. We are still using some as Mila isnt completely TT. I just want some more space now though.

Thank you Leslie for the storing info. So I might do that and use your suggestion Donna and put them in a pillow case. I should be able to fit them in the built-ins in our room.

Good idea Bec. I might pull them down in a few months and sell a few more. Then maybe keep a couple as keepsakes....is that weird, lol!

To people who do not share the cloth addiction, it probably does seem weird - but to me......no

Just jumping in here but I am very interested in this, I was hoping to keep all my nappies for our next but that won't be for atleast another 3 years or so, will they really 'break down' if stored for that long....? I'm just confused because I've had favourite jeans, tees, jumpers for YEARS....? Is it because of the constant contact with urine when in use?

Feeling a bit grumpy about this now!!

You can keep your nappies, they won't deterioate, but you may find the elastic does. But in most cases the elastic can be replaced though. And if you store them correctly you may find that they are okay - but I know if I store baby clothes with elastic and the likes, I often find when I go to reuse them, that the elastic isn't as stretchy as it once was.

I have stored Harry's nappies for the last 2 and a bit years in a cardboard box. I was looking through them the other day as I wanted some for Brock and they are all good. Like Lesley said I washed them really well and made sure they were really dry. The elastic is great and there is nothing wrong with them at all.

I also have nappies that were stored for 2+ years, without any problems.
I think it also depends on the quality of materials used in the nappy.
