I've overcome the stinky nappy syndrome by doing a monthly cold wash in a full scoop of regular powder (ie full of everything we're told not to use on MCN), followed by another full hot cycle without any detergent to rinse. I've been doing that for about 7 months and my nappies never stink and don't look, feel or perform like it's done any damage.

I got rid of smelly nappies by getting rid of synthetics
It must be something about our water here? It didn't happen when I was somewhere else.

how annoying for you.
I do the tea tree oil in the final rinse which seems to help. I agree with cas that it could be synthetics, fleece seems to hold on to the stink. Your boy might be going thru a smelly wee phase too, mine did. It doesn't seem so bad now. I hope you find a solution.

I was just going to say a cold prerinse might help. And yeah, it could be a smelly wee phase....Maybe cold rinse each nappy before bucketing? Good luck!
