I love my soap nuts for nappies too. I love how they don't leave residue, no smell and are softer than when using detergent. I've heard some ppl put them in a cup of warm water before throwing them in the wash to get them going. I usually fill the machine, then let it sit for 15mins before starting the cycle. Definitely worth a try.

You can also buy them at Green & Nutty and The Wee Wuns.

I use soap nuts for nappies too. Ditto Cas - I love that there's no residue - that's the big bonus for us being pocket users.

I follow a tip from someone else on here and add one or two new nuts to the bag every time I wash then empty the bag when it gets full & nuts are disintegrated (picking out any still intact!). There's also a powder available now so I'm going to try a sample of that to see how it goes.

Do your nappies come up nice and clean? I don't mean completley stain free, but smelling cleaning, etc.

I've used them for nearly a year and they are fantastic! I reckon the 1 kg bag will almost do us for the year, or pretty close to. We do at least one wash a day. I've found they last better if you do a cold wash, and I put them in a laundry bag and hang the bag out on the clothes line with the clothes so they dry out between washes. They are great for red wine stains (which we have quite a lot of ) but not so good for sweat or grease stains. But in the end, sunlight gets out most of the stains anyway, so its all good. I'm totally converted now and won't be washing with anything else. Love em!

thats what I do too. I'd like to try the powder too, because I often use normal (eco friendly) detergent when I'm too lazy to find the soapnut bag and pop it in hot water to get it started (I wash in only cold)

I like that I don't have to do the final rinse cycle. I just let it do the agitate thing, then spin dry.

I found it made all the hemp nappies and bits that were stiff as boards, really soft (I don't use a dryer). Nothing has not come out clean, but I've not used them on really filthy clothes or pooey nappies....

I tried the sample lot & really liked them - then I bought a kilo bag, but noticed that the clothes & nappies were getting a strange smell (obviously the natural scent of the soap nuts) & DH work clothes didn't seem clean anymore.
I think they would be ok for lightly soiled clothing & napies.
I love the fact that they are a natural product, but they just didn't cut it IMO.
