Default Dry Pailing? lavender & Bi Carb??

I read somewhere on here about putting bi-carb and lavender oil in the bucket when dry pailing to absorb smells and as a natural disenfectant.... (but cant find it now that i am looking for it... maybe cos i keep getting distracted by other threads )
How much of each do you use?
any other dry pailing tips?

Thanks

I don't put anything in the bucket. When I first started, I tried a few things and to be honest, the smelly things just made the smell worse and the bicarb didn't make a difference.

I just throw dirty nappies (any poo washed off first) straight a bucket with a tight fitting lid and do a cold rinse before a cold wash with half-dose of powder when I have a full load (every second day for us). Once a month I also do a full cycle hot wash with no powder after the main wash... no problems with smelly nappies here!

I dont use anything or even a lid. I tried a few things too and it didn't make and difference. When I use a lid the smell over powers me when I take it off so I would rather let the smells disappear on their own. It does smell a little bit like wee in the laundry but you cant smell it out of the laundry.

I use buckets with lids and my new habit is to wash the buckets every time I wash nappies.

I just use a splash of water in the bottom and wipe the bucket & the lid over with an old sock from the rag drawer over my hand. Then I tip the water out and wipe the bucket & lid dry with another sock. The socks go in the wash with the nappies. If it's sunny I might pop the buckets out in the sun as well.

I've managed to keep this up for over a month now. I find that if I do it every time it happens *almost* automatically rather than just when I *feel* like it (which was rare).
