Question New nappies repelling- what to do?

My girlfriend recieved her very first delivery of nappies the other day. Haute pockets and itti d'lish.

She washed them twice then tried to use them. Both of them leaked out of the legs .

She's checked the fit of them and thinks they are a good fit- no gaps around the leg. She has now also done a strip wash- she's tested them by dropping water on them which is still repelling and isn't brave enough to actually put one back on bubs.

What should she do? It's a bit of a mystery and pretty frustrating for her

Whenever I've done a strip wash it's worked the first time, and I've never had any problems with brand new nappies. I feel bad too because I rave about MCN and encourgaed her to use them

Any suggestions?

Hmm, I don't think she has, but I will check. She uses a washing liquid called Tri Nature. Which is just a phosphate and salt free one.

Maybe try washing a few extra times? Sometimes it takes 8-10 washes

a 'drop' of water isnt an indicator of repelling because it needs some pressure behind it. When a baby wee's they dont dribble it kinda gushes iykwim

I agree with this....I once unnecessarily strip washed my nappies about 10 times cause the water kept on repelling when I tested them with drops of water and I didnt realise at the time that this is normal..

Try warm water too, cold water and warm water repel differently.

Thanks guys for the advice- I will pass it on.

I did ask her if she wanted to give the nappy another go on bubs after she'd strip washed but she wasn't convinced. She's a bit sleep deprived, and it's her first baby, so I think a leaky nappy and having to change yet another wet outfit seems a bit much for her at the moment!

Is she using liners? If so what type?
How long were the nappies on before they leaked?
