I knew that panadol caused staining if the baby takes it, but I have noticed grey stains on the nappies after I have taken panadol (he's breastfed). Has anyone else had that happen.

oh that makes sense!i have heard babies who havent had panadol have had this happen - but not sure if they were bf and mum took panadol. would be interesting to find out if there are others.
my nappies have never got the grey stains and neither baby nor me take/took panadol (well very rarely we will, hasn't happened yet)

Ahhh that's why some of my nappies have grey stains on them. Brock is teething badly at the moment and thought it was his wee that was causing it, but panadol is the only thing he can have to help when it gets really bad. I only ever give it to him in the middle of the night so he and I can get some sleep. That explains why it's on his night nappies.
I don't take panadol.
Thank you for helping me solve that mystery.

I don't know but it wouldn't surprise me.
Depends on if it's about the colours in the (baby) panadol ie to make it a syrup even for the colour-free one... or if it's more about what's IN the Panadol iykwim

no idea. but i would use liners while giving bubs panadol to prevent the stains.

Liners won't help as the staining is in the urine so doesn't stop at the liner. Only thing I've found helps is lots of sun after the fact (or no panadol of course!).

blogging more often now. well i'll try!
It's the artificial sweetner (sorbitol I think) not a colour that causes the stains. I don't know if it can go through breast milk.

yep...definitely happened to us! In fact I found the paracetamol via breastmilk stains are worse than if given directly to the baby. Go figure! I had dreadful backpain after having Josie so I took a lot more paracetamol than I'd like to admit to and I found the staining occurred whether I'd taken it in capsule, tablet or liquid form (yep...used the children's panadol once when nothing else was left!
No amount of sun has gotten the stains out either although they seem to be fading a tiny bit after each wash.

Oh no! I have been on the panadol for a week...although Ella's nappies don't seem to have stained yet (fingers crossed)
