    Default Getting Magicalls clean??

I have some BBH Magicalls, a few I bought second hand but most of them I got new and have only used them a couple of times. They are all the old style with no pockets. I am having trouble with little bits of poo not washing out of the seams on the fleece surface! I have an almost new front loader, I do a prewash and a normal wash in warm water, using normal detergent (omo sensitive). It is certainly not overloaded as I only wash the nappies and any of DS's things together. I wash the nappies every morning so the longest they sit there is 24 hours. What can I do to fix this? Should I be wet pailing the pooey ones or rinsing them? I am already using a fleece liner and I have been using the boosters as well (I need to wash them more to help with the absorbancy, so I figure I may as well wash them dirty as clean). So it's not like the nappies are getting completely covered in poo, as the liner and booster cop most of it. Although DS is 3.5 months and breastfed, so the poos are very runny.

most of my stash are the old style magicalls, i rinse all my nappies before pialing them giving the little pooey bits a scrub off if needed and never get any bits stuck on after a wash, i have a front loader too.

Sounds like your DS and mine are the same age!

I have at least a dozen of the style you are talking about and I dry pail them then put them straight into my machine (no rinsing) with soap in a nut shells. They are coming out just so clean and smelling so good! Prior to this i used omo sensative too and they werent coming out!

I do have a top loader though...

I dont do a prewash and I wash every 2nd day (nappies on there own is a full load) The boosters i find arent coming out but the sun is defiantely helping that!

Breastfed babies have runny ones, perfectly normal!

Thanks everyone, maybe I should try rinsing them or trying a new detergent! I was trying to avoid rinsing by using the liners and washing every day but it looks like I need to get my hands dirty

Pheebs I don't know of the soap that you use, where do you get it from and what is it called? Is it suitable for use in a front loader?

I would also rinse first, just a quick one.

FYI with all my old Magicalls I have cut pockets in them just with scissors as they did not seem to dry right out. Since I did that they are heaps better and more absorbent. I think I was using them not completely dry and then thinking they weren't absorbent. I can now also put a booster in if I want. The microfleece doesn't fray. I also now dry then inside out sometimes to air the microfibre.

I had the same issue with Freya's newborn/breastfed poos not washing off nappies completely either - not any specific nappy brand, just any nappy that she had happened to poop in, but particularly those with gathered legs.

I tried washing less nappies at a time, even though I didn't overload also. That seemed to help. Do you do a pre-rinse in your machine before you wash? If not, then that might help, or rinse them by hand either before dry pailing, or before putting in the machine.

Sometimes I just had to wash again unfortunately.

I've had the same issue with the magicalls (pocket/no pocket). I just rinse mine in the laundry with some hot water. I know it sounds a bit icky but its not that bad. You dont really have to get your hands dirty, I just lie it in the bottom of the sink under the tap. But I do think thats the key. Then I dry pail, (I dont think wet pailing will really help). I also use Earth wool wash which is surprisingly good. I also wrinse-wash-then wrinse again (bub has eczema). If there is any stains, I just sun them, and it usually disappears. Otherwise I'll just rewash next time around with the next load of nappies. Surprisingly simple

Thanks Pheebs, I might have to get some of them ang give them a go!

Lousmum I already do a prewash. I will have to try the rinse first.

Leah that's such a great idea! I often have to dry them inside and they take a couple of days to dry completely. I'm not sure that I'm game to hack into mine though, I might get someone else to do it for me

Pheebs nope nothing frayed at all. The idea was given to me by a lovely NC lady who is wise in all nappy matter and I am very lucky to know.

I am actually a bit sad Amara is almost out of her Magicall mediums

    Thats a good idea Leah

I have the new ones and I dry mine inside out as that way the insides dry better, once it feels dry i then turn them right way out so the linner gets the sun and the rest drys

I have never had the problem with the poo but I always rinse poo off asap so save of staining..... I'm lucky that the laundry is right next to my loo so I have a 2 way tap thinging where my washer conects to the water that I have conected a hose and a normal garden sprayer (one with different spray types) that I use to rinse the nappies in the loo I did have a LS but silly me when I moved out of the house we sold I forgot to take it with me grrrrrrrrrrrr
