Can I cheat?

I have a bg osfa with dead elastic in one leg. Here is what i am thinking.

Cut a small slit in the fleece casing at both ends of where the elastic is, sew in a piece of elastic only at one end (kind of overstitch) thread it through the casing to the other end where i furiously overstitch the other end of the elastic. So elastic will only be attached in two places, at either end and will be inside the nappy cover to seal the leg.

I can't see why this wouldn't work, can you?

BG are only stitched at the ends anyway.

I turn them inside out and follow the edge you will find the spot where the end is stitched, slit a couple of stitches and the channel will open up and you can snip off the dead elastic, sew the new stuff down, thread though the channel and do the same at the other end. Turn right side out and go over the top stitching at the ends.

Does that make any sense?

Sinead-B you have described far more eloquently what I was planning to do! Thanks for the help! Seems a pity to have a nappy not being used (Mind you they are my least fav nappy but always handy to have some spares lurking!)

did it work as I have 4 that need new elastic I might give it a go this arvo.
