    Default Elastics constanly 'going'

I need some ideas as I'm about to really go mental. My nappies are approx 2 years, the oldest ones are, I'm having to replace the elastic in nearly every nappy. To summarise what I do is
I store the bucket in his room, I wash every 2nd morning, I have a front loader which I use 1/4 powder. I always hang on line and have never put them in the drier. I've done one strip wash.
I replaced the elastic in one nappy about 2-3 months ago and I have to replace it again already. I used Birch swimwear elastic.
I don't know why this keeps happening. He does drink bottles not big on water. He's 7 months old. Not sure what else I can tell you.
Can anyone suggest why the elastic keeps going? What could I be doing wrong?
    Please help

I had this problem with my bumgenius (and a few others to a lesser extent) and came to the conclusion that it is my DS's wee that was destroying them (as the nappies he didi't use as much were fine). He slept overnight in a BG...so it was more concerntrated too.

My only suggestions are to rinse every nappy when you take it off, and wash every day.

Do you use a particular brand? I found that all of my bumgenius nappies had issues with elastic after only a year! I was very frustrated. The newer ones seem to be better but I'm upset with the purchase since you are supposed to be able to use them on subsequent children. One year doesn't even get you through one child! I washed every day since I was working up my stash and didn't have enough cloth to go full-time but didn't want to use disposables.

I have found that hot (or even warm washes on some machines) destroy even the best elastic VERY quickly.

Thanks. I have bumgenios and pocket change pockets go on me. Problem is I replaced the elastic in my bumgenius only a few months ago and it has already lost it's elasticity.
Must be concentrated wee. What a hassle to rinse but guess I'll just have to wash every day. Hate putting the machine on for so few nappies.

I know a lady who sews her own nappies and that's the elastic she uses and has never had a problem with her 3 kids. What elastic would you suggest?
I've also had swaddlebees go on me.

There are two types of Birch swimwear elastic. One when stretched you can see through.

Can you see through it when you stretch it, if so get the other one. I buy mine in bulk but I can't remember if it it the braided one or the woven one (whichever one can't be seen through).

braided and woven are both white elastics you are referring to lastin which is a clear elastic.

In the 4yrs I have been making nappies I have found birch elastic to be quite unreliable and in fact if ever I use a roll in desperation I get lots of nappies back for repairs so I think that speaks volumes itself? I prefer Sullivans branded elastics
