    Default Canestan Rinse long term!

DH has had a rather nasty bout of tinea. I'm a bit paranoid about cross contamination via residual fungus in the washing machine so have been washing everything with a dose of canestin rinse to be on the safe side.

Now a pleasant side affect I didn't expect is there is no ammonia smell in our nappies anymore. Even from DS's night nappies that were so toxic my eyes would water, or in the bucket after 2 days They are also nice and soft. Not as soft as having a run through the dryer but much softer than after a line dry.

I wasn't planning on using it in every load once we are happy the tinea has left the building. Now I'm inclined to use it more often but I was wondering will it have a detrimental affect on the nappies?
Something that could be a coincidence is that DD is wetting out of her small ittis this week. It could be that she is ready to go up a size though because she is on the second last snaps. I recall the same thing happened to DS when he needed to go up a size but I'm a tad sus about the canestan leaving a residue and preventing absorbtion. I'm also thinking about elastic life too and if it will be shortened.

WDYT? I'm keen to keep using it due to the pong factor reduction but not to the detriment of our nappies. Has anyone else used it long term or have any info for me?

    Thanks

    Antibacterial products
Some people will choose to occasionally use a commercial antibacterial product on their nappies. These are not necessary, because detergent, heat and sunlight are all effectively antibacterial and antifungal, alone or in combination. The routine unnecessary domestic use of antibacterial chemicals is in many ways actively harmful, contributing to the environmental disaster of antibacterial product buildup in our waterways and the proliferation of resistant bacteria ("superbugs"). Resistant bacteria attack the most vulnerable people in our society, the ill, newborn, and hospitalised, and community use of antibacterial products contributes to the problem.
if you follow the link, there's more specific info about sunlight/UV light killing bacteria, and links to studies etc.

eta ~ I don't know specifically about residue etc and whether it's detrimental to nappies, but any extra chemicals would have the potential to build up and cause damage, I would think.

I use it in every rinse it makes the nappies smell a lot nicer than without it. I dont think it will harm the nappies in any way

Thanks for that girls I am a believer in the sun but I know once I stop using it I'll be tempted if they get pongy again.

Canestan rinse? Where do you buy it?
My DD doesnt have thrush atm but has done recently after teething diarrhea. I sunned the nappies and stripped them but a rinse sounds useful...especially as I am getting ammonia smells in the night nappies like on of the PP's. So doing a rinse occasionally helps stop the ammonia from building up in the nappy overnight?

I am loving nappycino and wishing I found it a long time ago...maybe my DH isn't though as just tonight I have bought online some Canestan wash and from another site bought some elastic on recommendation from another forum member Maybe I need to stop reading threads so I don't get any more bright ideas?!
