Greetings All... just wanted to say hi and thanks for all the discussions and advice on this forum that helped give me the confidence to go with MCNs!
I am married and mum to a 2yo boy and a 5-wk-old boy. Just started (after months of research) using pockets on the big one with a couple of prefolds and fitteds for good measure. Hoping to start using them on the little one soon! Also I am a keen sewer (?? sewing person!!) and have had a go at making a couple of styles of pockets, a cover with gussets, and a nb fitted (which bubba has worn once but i haven't got any small enough covers!) I have too many questions to remember right now (he has only slept through once) but here are a couple: 1) I would love to know if/how anyone has made a pull-up PUL cover that is kind of like the old pilchers pattern, I would like to try this? Haven't found a free pattern online for it - any suggestions? 2) WHY is it so expensive to buy flushable liners, and WHY are they only available ONLINE instead of in every baby shop and supermarket instead of those horrible NON-flushable ones!?!?!? (rant over!! )bye for now! |

Hello, welcome!
I'm sure I've seen pull-up PUL covers somewhere...can't remember though, maybe bummi's?? I don't have any pull-up covers because I can't stand the thought of pulling them down and smearing poo all down my baby's legs...wraps are wayyyy better! And I have read somewhere that the flushable liners can be washed at least once - you might get a second use out of at least some of them if you wash the ones that weren't pooed on. I'll be trying this soon - Finn has just started solids so we'll start using liners now. Something to try for the cover pattern might be to just shorten the wings on a wrap pattern and stitch up the sides...

Hi and welcome!
Can't help re the pattern for the pilcher style covers, tho I think you could convert a standard pattern with some trial and error with say, calico as your draft for size and fit etc and I think there are some places that do flushables IRL, best bet would be to ring around ![]() Enjoy your cloth-bummed babes!

Thanks for your suggestions everyone and the welcomes too!
I pulled apart a pvc pilcher to make a pattern, now to get a few moments to run up a prototype or two. I think Bummis do a whisper pant now you mention it. Re liners, yeah I do wash the flushable ones and some have been going 4 uses so that's pretty good value. Call me wussy but I am really scared about using fleece liners, no idea why as I little squirt the poo out of the nappies anyway!! I want to experiment with making a sized shaped layin-type nappy (lay-in to a wrap cover) that is layered microfibre towelling and fleece topped. that way no elastic gathering for poo to collect in (unless it gets to the cover). Might make the fleecy topping a little wider at the crotch. hemp or bamboo boosters could go under the layin if needed. What do you reckon?(I gotta say I am not good at "joining" IYKWIM so please forgive the long silences, also just beginning TT the 2yrold AAARRRGGGHHH.... )Cheers! Conina |

Hi Conina,
welcome to Nappycino! Enjoy your new cloth adventures. You should be able to find both Eenees and Natures Child biodegradable liners in real stores, depending on where you live. Even some health food shops etc have the Eenees range. Natures Child is in a few baby franchises etc too. hope that helps
