Default Another cloth nappy nerd joins the ranks

Hi everyone!

Yep, another newbie here, who's very excited to have found a forum to feed my new obsession of MCN's!!! DH thinks I'm weird, and just doesn't understand....so it's great that I know there are fellow nappy nerds around. None of my friends use MCN's, and agree with my DH that I'm weird for wanting to do so!

Some background.... My DD is 15 months old now..... Started her in 'sposies to begin with (but all the more eco-friendly ones- Bambo, Moltex, etc.), then when she was 3 months old I started her in cloth (pockets), but despite persistence and trying all the different things the manufacturer suggested, they kept leaking. I was VERY busy at the time, running 3 quite new businesses of our's, plus planning an extended round-the-world trip for the whole family (I have a 9yo SD as well), and was getting about 4hrs sleep a night for months on end...... In the end I gave up on the cloth and all the extra washing it was giving me (changing all her clothes with every nappy change), and went back to sposies. I should add I only had the one brand of pockets, and as I'd bought quite a few of them, I didn't feel like I could justify to DH spending more $$ on trying a different brand on the chance they might not work either.

...........Which brings us to now........post round-the-world trip, have a (little) bit more time on my hands than I did previously, and have convinced DH that it would still work out more cost effective (than continuing with sposies), to buy some new MCN's of different brands and see which work the best. I posted on another forum (NP) asking advice on MCN's, (didn't know about NC then), and took their advice shopping. The last few weeks I've had so much fun hunting down all different brands and styles to try....I can't believe there are SO many different types of nappies out there, and so many of them are so funky! MUCH cuter than disposables!! I've ordered from a few different sites, and am having a great time every day when the mail arrives....I feel like a little kid at Christmas- anticipating their arrival, and then opening the parcels, then washing them.....arrrrghh!! It gives me a huge sense of satisfaction with every nappy I put in the nappy bucket, and then later wash and hang on the line, to know that that's one less disposable going into our landfill, and less pollution being created from the production of more and more disposables.

Well I could keep rambling like a full-on cloth nappy nerd for ages, ....but I really should get to bed now as it's late.... I really just wanted to say thanks for a great forum, and I look forward to getting to know you all more soon, and learning from your collective wisdom!

Thanks for taking the time to read this!

Hi & welcome to Nappycino

I had a similar experience to you in that I started Chelsea in cloth as a newborn & hated it so used disposables until she was 3 months old & then tried cloth again but a different style of nappy. Didn't take long until I was hooked!

See you around the boards

Welcome!! We can all relate to your weird obssession LOL. And same with that feeling of satisfaction from putting them through the wash and seeing them come out all clean, knowing you've done a tiny part saving the world!

I agree, there are so many to choose from it's pretty overwhelming. I found it all so much easier once DS was on solids full time. At least it was only wee leaks to contemplate then!

Welcome to NC. You are going to fit right in here. Most of us feel exactly the same way (even about the satisfaction of using them). We can all be "nerds" together lol

Thanks everyone for your welcomes! Looking forward to getting to know you all better. SIL was over for dinner tonight & noticed the cloth nappy on DD & commented.....thinks I'm totally crazy.....but then she has a TOTALLY different parenting style to me in every respect anyway. It's sad that we have to defend our decision to use cloth over disposables isn't it? Oh well, I'm going to stick to my guns and not worry what others say....I know why I'm doing it, and I feel good for that decision...no-one can persuade me otherwise!
