I used the pad fold with my homemade prefolds and used covers with gussets. These kept in all explosive poos and did a great job. I made my prefold using bamboo fleece. I used 2 layers of bamboo, in the middle 3rd of the 2 layers of bamboo I sewed in 2 layers of hemp terry. Then folded it in 3rds laid it in the cover and put it on. I made them 33cmsx35cms, which then fit perfectly in the pockets I have for later use. This worked great. Here are some pics

Hi Diva (and Dan and Tyler ) Your little one was born the same day as my forth little one Ari 2 layers of bamboo fleece is quiet stiff and thick imo for using as flats and I do think that although terry is thinner (less gsm), is is much soft and silkier to use as a flat, iykwim. I use 2 layer (approx 30-35 X 30-35 cm) trifold in my pocket nappies and on occasion use them in cover as is. I know you are saying that you don't want to fiddle around with sewing but a couple fitted pockets without top stitching around elastic might suit. You can use trifolds to stuff them, they come apart for faster drying, and if the elastic happens to go in them is is very easy (accessible) to replace. With Tyler being 4 months be would probably be going in to medium sizing which seems to last ages (Ari and Nate (2) both wear mediums in many nappies). Anyways, welcome back to NC, Hayley.

welcome back to NC

you can get heavier weight bamboo terry to use as flats, and around 60cm square works well sizewise. I use the bamboo terry for prefolds also, and that seems to be more durable than the single-layer flats, but does take a bit longer to dry (because it's twice as thick)

I found that padfolded boosters in a cover worked ok when it was just little wees, but big breastfed poos almost always ended up in the cover. The cover usually kept them from going further, but you do go through more covers doing it that way, and sometimes the cover ends up quite wet as well if the wee isn't absorbed in before it can run off the sides of the pad too.
