So basically i am Kat, mum to Oscar (nearly 4) nad Eliza (just 1) and I hang around here sometimes
so hi to all the peeps I know and hi to all the newbies!

cheers
Kat

Allo! Welcome back - hope you're feeling a little better?

Yep, me here with thyroid issues too. Have been for 9, actually nearly 10 years, diagnosed by chance, made a HEAP of difference along with figuring out lactose intolerance. Currently on 100mcg oroxin per day. Got down to 49kg and no energy etc etc at my most unwell before they sussed out thyroid, finally. Yell if there's any q's I can help with tho I'm not sure what I could help with lol

Thanks for the lovely welcome back everyone

Hey Kristy - just trying to get the oroxine levels right. My doc has me on a combination of T3 and T4 so I'm just trying to get the dosage right for me. Unfortunately I've put ona bit of weight but am hoping to get a bit more active and hopefully my metbaolism will start working again properly

hugs
Kat

Welcome back Kat. I have been MIA too.
I also have thyroid prblems, I have a multinodular (hypo) thyroid, and am waiting to stop b/f to be able to undergo radiotherapy. I am taking neomercazole at the moment, I have been for 8 months, but still have the exhaustion, weight gain happening.

Kristy, how long did it take for you to start feeling normal? I do a lot of exercise, healthy eating and it seems to be stopping the gaining, but I just can't lose aything I am the heaviest I haveever been and it just makes me feel worse.

My endo did say that because mine was left for so long (my symptoms all started right after Jackson being born so it was assumed it was postpartum thyroiditis).

Kat I got lucky in that the first dose we started on was the spot on one - and being it takes 6-8 weeks for new doses to even out, it's a pitb when you're trying to sus it. My levels had never changed once in the whole ten odd years, (not even while pregnant) except for just recently they went up so my dose went down (I know that sounds odd but it's the body overcompensating bc it's getting too much of the other one, so you lower your oroxin and your body stops overcompensating), then bloods 6 weeks later revealed the levels went back down so my oroxin went back up, and there it's stayed since.
I suspect this was the window (the 6 weeks) that we conceived this Baby
As to getting your dose right - lastest opinion is that the oroxin should be refrigerated to keep it more stable thus more effective - but I can't get a consistent answer on whether to take it at night or in the morning... ask your doc if s/he thinks it might make a difference maybe?

Bec
I honestly don't remember bc it was that long ago. But I was tired, so tired and on top of that, because my metabolism had slowed + the lactose issue, there was basically stuff fermenting in my gut... gross I know. So every [however often] my body would empty the lot and I would sleep on the floor near the loo... Which that, plus the general low metabolism explained my low weight - not hugely underweight, but 49kg isn't that good...

I went to doc after doc and the only reason one doc (not my usual) picked it up was because of the top I had on and he noticed my neck. Mine's autoimmune and my Nanna has it too.

Have you had a full blood workup as well? I've got other little niggly things added to it that don't help, so in terms of weight for you, maybe there might be something else as well?

Bec I know someone who had radiotherapy for hers as well - she had this great book that she leant me 'What Your Doctor Never Told you About...' (I wish I had the exact title but a Google might help) and my goodness it explains SOoooo many things that docs had dismissed or just gone 'we dunno'... it's well worth a read if you can get hold of it.

Thanks for sharing girls

i'm on a combined dose of 175mcg oroxine mon to fri and 200mcg sat/sun plus 20o mcg (I think) of T3. Some docs don't agree with T3.T4 therapy but there you go - we're trying it out.

I think it's working slowly. I'm cerainly not feeling wired and like my finger's in an electrical socket like hyperthyroid people do.

It's nice to know there are other people out there.
