Hi and Welcome!

I'm a newbie too, and just wanted to say that although the information out there might get a bit overwhelming, stick with the research, and it will all start to make sense, and you'll know what's right for you. The first thing I did was order one of each kind of nappy system, so a fitted, a pocket, an AIO, and a prefold. Oh and a cover to go over the fitted and prefold. And then hubby and I had a play with them to see what I liked best. In the end I've gone with mostly prefolds (an evolution of the traditional terry flat), but a few fitteds and AIO for something different.

Good luck with your research, and with restraining yourself from clicking the "add to cart" button.... Lucky for me my hubby never opens our credit card bills......

and welcome to nappycino. You'll get lots of advice here and heaps more enabling.

The best advice I was given was to get a few different sorts to try out, rather than sticking to one brand. This allows for differences in babies ie: not every nappy will work on every baby, and you'd hate to be stuck with heaps of nappies that don't seal properly on your child. I also found that different nappies worked better at different stages and there's a couple of nappies I hated on DD when she was solely breastfed but I love them now she's on solids.

If you're ever down in Brissie try to make it Tues, Wed or Thurs between 10 and 2 and visit the Pookey Pockets shop. It's great there, you get to play with heaps of different brands and Bek is full of information.

All the best with your mcn journey.
Peta

Thanks again everyone for the warm welcomes. This week I have filled an entire binder book with my 'research' which I suspect may also be an attempt to avoid my history assignments that are looming .
I have been pleasantly surprised at my husband's reaction to my quest to go cloth, at first thought it was his appreciation of the monetary savings but after a bit of a chat last night he is really excited about not using disposables again and wants to help me decide on the nappies. So in view of his enthusiasm, and the advice you lovely people have given, I am going to have to get my hands on some of these nappies instead of making decisions based on the quality of my pc monitor Doing a quick trip to brisbane and going to check out some in store if possible in a fortnight and also mail ordering one of a few different styles so that we dont spend money on something that doesnt suit us.

Again thanks for the tips.........if I hadnt found Nappycino I am pretty certain that I would have three dozen expensive nappies ready to go in the nursery that might not suit my baby and have turned to the disposable out of habit......WHICH WILL NOT HAPPEN AGAIN, my 3.5 year old who has helped me 'choose colours' for his unborn sister's nappies has requested cloth pullups be bought for him also as he had been using a sposie at night, what an awesome child. will post a progress report when nappies here and assignments complete!

welcome.. I agree very addictive, but once you have had a chance to reasearch and settle into the idea (and try some out) you can be clearer on what you do and don't like in a nappy.

Good luck, its so much fun!

I think Kristymumof4 had it written beautifully.

I have used terryflats, disposables and back to terryflats and now MCN and tbh I prefer the MCN and even get excited when I have to change his toosh and then do a load of washing as I think the MCN look so cute on and off the backside.....go figure.

Welcome to the dark side hon and I have already learnt heaps in the few days I have been around the boards.

Take care
