Smile Hi everyone! new to cloth and in need of serious advice!

Hi everyone,

I suffer from severe domesticity issues but am willing to learn! Have a 3.5yr old who wore sposies as I had no idea that mcns existed. I used terry flats in the hospital with my son but was under the impression that they required a lot of work etc. and wasnt using covers so lots of wet clothes.... gave up entirely by the time he was a week old! expecting a beautiful second bundle in december and really wanting to give cloth an actual chance as doing a load of washing isnt any harder than emptying our bin....I think? Anyhow I shall be asking sooooooooooo many questions in my quest to go cloth this time round and any help will be gratefully appreciated .

Howdy
Welcome to here!

There are HEAPS of hints, tips, Q&A about the place in here, esp search through the newborn q threads/section.

Flats work, but you gotta have covers if you have clothes over the top Maybe you could have a couple sitting beside your MCN stash to try, or prefolds. We did terries w #1 and #2 and would have done them after that again, if MCN didn't exist

Really with MCN there's no difference in terms of time, well I don't think so anyway... unless you sew your own lol but then that's more of a hobby so I don't think you'd count it...

Changing the bum takes the same, wiping it takes the same. Those with poo in a disposable empty it into the loo, those with poo in cloth empty it into the loo. Disposable goes in bin, MCN goes in bucket. Disposable bin is full, gets emptied into green bin. Nappy bucket full, empty into washing machine and turn it on (I only hand wash when we go camping ). Run out of disposables, go to shop. Run out of MCN, go to washing line lol - really there's not that much time difference at all, otherwise so many of us wouldn't be doing MCN. Well that's my 2c anyway lol

See you round here, and look forward to hearing how things go

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome! Well I have made the decision to switch and this time I am sticking to it!!!!!!!! Hubby is happy because he will save some moolah and wont be sent to the shops at crazy hours to get more nappies ! I started a thread with my shopping list in the 'getting started with cloth thingamajig' as I had come up with a definite idea of what I needed........IGNORE IT NEEDS TO BE COMPLETELY REVISED!!! Have spent the day sick in bed researching on the laptop and am now more confused than ever back to the drawing board!!!! I have a feeling if I dont keep to a tight budget I am going to spend waaaayyyyyy too much on all those gorgeous little nappies and hubby might be more out of pocket than the sposie route .
