Hello,
I am new to this too. I am just over 27 weeks with my first, living in Melbourne and have decided to go cloth. OOOHhH...bubs is having a wriggle right now I've already bought some Baby behinds and Bumgenius (I think I have about 22) but I am having a major panic about what to put on a newborn. Even though they are 'ones size fits all' they look pretty bulky for a newby, especially the beehinds....plus you have to change them so often in the beginning. I've been obsessively looking at forums about what to use on a newborn as I don't really want to buy any more modern cloth ones until I work out what suits us and until bubs is bigger.Should I buy some bamboo prefolds for the beginning? (they are pretty expensive), some flannel flats or some muslin flats? And should I get some snibs to start with? I honeslty spend more time lying awake at night thinking about this than anything else!!!!!!.....stoopid I know? Sorry about all the questions. Are there any get togethers in Melbourne where some lovely people might be able to give me advice? Now, I just hope I manage to post this correctly

welcome to NC and to the world of cloth.
I'd get some prefolds or flats to use for the first few weeks. You could use the outers of the bumgenius as covers (assuming they're pockets).

Thank you everyone!
I think I'll order 12 bamboo prefolds. At least I can use them later. I have some baby beehinds pul wraps...about 4 small ones I think. The bumgenius aren't pockets (still getting used to the nappy vocab ). I can't find the muslin ones anywhere....I am wondering whether I should just get a pack of Terry towelling because they'll come in use. I'm just now sure they'd fit well under grow suits. Can anyone recommend a wetbag? I figured we'd just buy a cheap sealable bin from Bunnings. Sorry....... I keep bombarding with questions!!!! All very exciting....and confusing

Glad you are happy with yours. Was wondering which type is best. There is a woman near me who sells them I think. I'll email her.
Have decided to go with a nappy wash service for the 1st 6 weeks. Am losing too much sleep over what these big nappies will be like on a newborn (ridiculous I know) and the bamboo prefolds are pretty pricey. I figured $205 for the first 6 weeks is not too bad, considering how much I will save later with cloth. That'll give me time to learn how to breastfeed (am sooooo hoping it goes relatively smoothly), get into some sort of a routine, baby will grow more and fit into my nappies better and I can experiment with the nappies I've bought. I'll buy some terry towlings as well. They seem to be super useful. Has anyone used a nappy service around Melbourne before? |

Hi and welcome.
Bamboo prefolds are great and they won't be wasted as there are uses beyond nappies for them. They are great soak up spills cloths. I also had terry flats that I boosted with bamboo trifolds or made my own prefolds with bamboo down the centre of some terry flats. So having a few on hand is helpful I think. It might look pricey initially but it's just an unfront cost for long term use.
