Hi All,
I am 23 weeks pregnant with my first and started my cloth nappy research a couple of years ago at the Sun Fair at UWA (University of WA). Obviously not seriously until it became relevant and still it's abstract because I don't actually have a real little person doing the business in them yet!
Still, I have become a mad ebayer buying variations on the MCN.
I have Baby Roos, Nature's Child, Baby Beehind Magic Alls, Ella's House hemp and Cloth'd up minky covers.
Not to mention a couple of organic wool crocheted soaker/pilcher things.
Also, I'm waiting on 5 mtr of bamboo fleece from Bubba Earth to make about 7 flat nappies.
I have so far made one fitted all-in-one nappy using some iron-on vinyl and cute-as quilting cotton and an old flannel (for soaking section) and flannelette lining. The vinyl feels a bit crispy though.
I held a 'Peruse a Cloth Nappy' evening with the Australian Nappy Network Perth kit at my place with antenatal class folk, friends (who are users) and friends of friends. Cloth nappy systems are overwhelming me with choice (the stuper-market) so I figured it must be the same for everyone, so as I imagined quite a few people turned up.
It was great to hear the users' experiences. It seems no one thing works for all sexes, body shapes, lifestyles and particular convictions.
It did seem there was some concensus about 'what not to buy' - I can't name names here as says the rules of the forum. The opinions were somewhat surprising though.
I can't wait to become a bit of an expert in the use of cloth nappies as I am currently a WAH bridal dressmaker and the problem solving of patternmaking and technical function of clothing turns me on!
It has been suggested (by antenatal class mate) that perhaps I will start a nappy label one day but I say with so many people doing it already I would need to do something pretty special to make a mark in the saturated market. I think I will just come up with some prototypes for my self/ourselves.
Caio for now,
Jemma
PS. Looking forward to meeting mum's in my area as I have recently moved to a new suburb - with no cool cafes!![]()
