Default Finally back to being active online!

    Hi everyone

Thought I had best say hello again, I was just reading my introduction post and thinking WOW how much had changed. When I last posted I was a student midwife, living with my husband's grandparents [nursing them through ill health], and thinking about TTC.

A am now a registered midwife, my husbands grandparents have very sadly both passed away, we became pregnant at first try and then battled with quite severe hyperemesis before the arrival my beautiful blessing in little boy Taj who was born in May 08.

My aspirations for making my own nappies fell by the wayside in light of the hyperemesis and we have been on a cloth journey with mainly Baby Beehinds and Itti Bitti Boos - it turned out my little one was as sensitive to synthetics as I was as a child so we are not using any covers and this is working for us pretty well.

Thats all for now. DS is not well and writing this post has taken about 4 hours!!

Welcome again! Congratulations on your little Taj.
We have problems with synthetics too, so we only use knitted wool covers. That's working very well for us.
I hope DS is well again soon. See you around NC.

    Hi there,
congratulations on your little boy, and finishing your midwifery degree!! We need more midwifes!!
I use wool covers during the day, instead of synthetic ones too, don't know if you've tried using them?

    hi everyone!

we did try wool covers, a few different brands plus our own interlock home made. I the beginning it took a while to work out what was going on, because the wool was just making a rash I thought was nappy rash I suppose. But when we tried our own home made it was SO obvious. I should post the rash it caused!!! [have just added pic]... i had VERY sensitive skin as a child and actually had a skin test that showed an actual allergy to wool. Quite rare to actually be allergic to wool whilst most people just find it irritating probably because of the chemicals its processed with.

So, Taj reacted very badly to wool also as you can see. He ended up with 3 different types of rash at once; a true 'nappy rash' type urine reaction around his 'front bottom', chaffing and peeling burn rash at the legs of the nappy where the elastic was causing a reaction, and then this all over rash from the wool cover (which was trialling a big size for a night nappy and went all the way to his chest). This came up within 15 mins of wearing the wool cover.

Congrats Melissa on your starting midwifery, feel free to message me if you ever need help with anything.
