Default Another lurker shows her face

Sorry, this is a bit long! I joined a while ago, but this is my first post.

Nappies in my life:
  • I think I was in terry flats as a baby, not 100% sure.
  • When I was 10/11 (1988) our neighbours had #2 and I distinctly remember him being in terry flats, & being shown how to fold them.
  • A family I babysat for in 1996 used cloth, & the smell through the house from soaking nappies wasn't overpowering, but enough to turn me off cloth.
  • I once saw an infomercial for some kind of modern cloth nappy (looked like a cover with a changeable booster). I remember thinking at the time it looked stupid – wouldn’t poo get on the cover too, meaning changing the whole thing each time? But I did kind of like the idea of a reusable nappy, just not that design.
  • A few years ago a friend with a bub convinced me that putting a baby in cloth meant they would be wet & uncomfortable, and was unkind when there was a dryer alternative available.
  • MIL & SIL (no kids) once tried to convince me that cloth was better than disposable. Of course, we were only talking about flats (none of us knew any other cloth options) and I disagreed with them at the time.
Well, after a very long, sad & difficult journey TTC (multiple losses & infertility), I am 14w with what so far looks like a healthy bubba. During my early days with IVF I discovered EB, and have posted mostly in Assisted Conception and related areas (so I recognise several of you, but you might not know me). A few months ago I noticed more & more ‘modern cloth’ sigs on EB, which started me reading. I am now keen to give cloth a really good go, especially as DH & I are thinking seriously about finally buying a house this year and the $$ will be pretty stretched. DH is happy to try cloth as well, mostly for environmental & financial reasons. I even mentioned some of my modern cloth discoveries to a male childless colleague, & he keeps trying to convince me to start a WAH nappy business, & he doesn’t even know I’m pregnant!

I look forward to being a bit more active around here. Would love to see some RL nappies too. I will have a heap of questions, so watch out!

Penny

Welcome to the group Penny and congrats on your impending arrival
You'll find all the info and support you need here and lots of laughs too!
Where abouts are you? There are often Nappychino's in each state where you can see modern cloth in all it's RL glory!
I'm Suzanne btw, mum to Hannah and Beck Both in full time cloth!

Welcome to NC! Congrats on your pregnancy! There are so many ways to do cloth and while its easy to get carried away with some of the limited editions out here, its definitely doable to do cloth to save money!

Hey Penny, Congratulations on the new little one coming, and welcome
I remember terry days well, as a kid, and as a Mum - don't get me wrong, they did the job, I'm just very much enjoying modern cloth
Catch you round the boards!

Thanks everyone.

Suzanne, I'm in Sydney (near Hornsby). Looks like I'll have to work on my post count so I can suss out the RL nappycinos. I'm keen to try knitting soakers as well - I think I saw mention of a knittycino too.

Hi Penny and welcome to NC. And congrats on the pg too!

As Suzanne said, there IRL meets, and if you ever feel like a drive, we try to have them in Newcastle too (there are about 15+ of us).
