Default a fairly late starter

hey all,
I'm Amy, a SAHM to an autistic 4 year old who is too beautiful for words. Sadly though he is getting too big for chuckables and still not aware of his body functions so I am starting to look at moving over to cloth. Been doing the research and getting more confused by the minute, but you guys have been a great help while I've been lurking =) I'm married to my darling Peter and have been for 5 years now, and we are both looking basically for ways to make our munchykin a lil bit more comfy and happy.

Any advice is extremely appreciative as I must admit I'm feeling a little bit lost!

Hello and welcome to NC!

Our neighbour has a 6yr old Autistic boy who is only semi aware. I have been hoping to convert her and so I have been on the lookout for different things. He is only a skinny little one, so just fits in the largest size now for nights.

I know mother ease make large nappies, trainers (only suitable if he is semi trained) and bewetter pants (supposed to hold alot). I havent used any of these myself, but they look pretty good!

Good luck in the cloth change over! I have an unproven idea that cloth helps in TT, so it may help there too. (I have all the arguments ready for the neighbour)

Hi there welcome to NC!

Fire away with questions and I'm sure everyone will to their best to help
You are making a great move switching to cloth for many reasons, but the biggest benefit for you right now, would be that you can have the nappies custom made to fit if need be, but I'm sure the toddler nappies or XL nappies will do the trick

Hi Amy. Welcome.

One of the big advantages of cloth for helping kids become toilet aware is that you can get various different fabrics as the inner layer. On a nappy, we usually try to keep bub dry feeling and comfortable. I'm a big believer in trainers that are uncomfortable when wet so children don't want to wet them. So for that, you want to go with a fabric like cotton as the inner layer, and there are quite a few of these around. With cotton, your child will feel wet. Where as with disposables he probably feels quite dry.

Good luck finding the right nappy or trainer for your situation. As everyone else has said, ask as many questions as you want.

Fiona

Hi Amy and welcome!

I know little about bigger nappies, as I only have a wee one but
I'm sure there will be plenty on here to offer you some sound advice.
I do know that cloth will be far more comfy for your little fellow.

Hi Amy. I have little in the way of advice, so am mainly here with a warm welcome.
There are plenty of knowledgeable people about, and I know you'll get all the help you need.

Cheers

Welcome Amy! There are quite a few WAHMs here who make only XL nappies and on top of that, I'm sure some of them can even do a custom one for you! If you look at our business directory, you can see who they are.
