Check out http://http://www.mum.org/words.html and it gives you all different phrases that ppl around the world call their period. It's a great site - surprisingly though it's done by a guy!

What does 'wick' mean? I read in a thread that a nappy would wick around the legs.

it means the dampness travels from the inner of the nappy to the outer (usually at the legs but can be elsewhere).
another example is say you put the corner of a tshirt in some water and the rest of the shirt slowly gets wet - we call that 'wicking'
